Nut-jobs like this are way beyond that fairly practical grasp of reality, Don. If he own 2-3 cars like that, OK, but I count at least 20 of them.

Hoarders like this guy cannot accept the concept of depreciation over the time they've owned the items they've hoarded. Their thinking goes "I paid $6k for that '86 928s and it was worth twice that!" The fact that they left the car out in an open field for 8 years since that day (the last day it ran, incidentally) has nothing to do with anything in that guy's mind. It's still worth at least $9k to them.

I hate to think how many cars I might have with an acre or two outback to put them. Once you really start looking, put the word out, put a want to buy ad in Craigslist for a few cities, cars will start showing up cheap. Lowball cash offers do get accepted, its why I don't make them.

OTOH its pointless to argue with people about the value of their treasures in the mud. Some guy asked me what his car should sell for last week, and I got back this all caps suggestion I knew nothing with a cut and paste from the Kelly Blue Book.

Of course those could just be parts cars for his real collection of low mileage immaculate 928`s that he has stored inside the buildings out of view. Aren`t we just having fun tossing this guy under the bus ....

His response to just about every car I asked about included "It was running when it was parked." That's just wrong. I want to be driving the bus.

"running" covers quite a range when discussing a 928.

Starts every time, with a shot of ether, then dies.

Runs, but makes a lot of funny loud noises.

Runs, but doesn't drive.

Guy I bought from said it used to run fine.

Runs, but smoke comes out from under the dash.

Runs great, but my mechanic told me to leave the battery disconnected and I don't remember why.

Runs great, but I took off a couple parts for my other car.

They all run great, but I only have one set of spark plugs, which one do you want me to put them in?

Runs great, but needs a fuel pump fuse and I haven't fixed it yet.

Runs great, but I lost the key.

Default CASHED IT IN FOR CLUNKER PROGRAM

I think everyone who wants one on that lot offer 500-1,000 max,s4 1500 max.NO more than that then i think he will sell them all.If i they run he should have traded them in now to get 4500 each for everyone of them. The collector is a dreamer who loves the design, but do not know how to maintain them.If we have Rennlist back then this burial ground would have not happened to these magnificent beasts.Save what we can boys.......

OMG, the "collector" must be retarded. I mean, it should be pretty obvious for any adult with a decent IQ that a car sitting in the sun/rain/snow, with birds crapping all over it, parked on bare ground to make rust easier, is going to just turn into garbage given enough time.

THis is a psychological issue, most likely. I recently watched a program on Discovery or TLC about Hoarders. They keep and collect items that they think will be valuable. The fellow on the show I watched was collecting all things metal. Cars, appliances, all kinds of ****. He said it was worth Hundreds of thousands of dollars. It was for his grandkids college fund.

The local municipalities told him to clean it up, he went to jail and everything. I think the actual value of the acres of stuff was a couple hundred bucks IIRC.

Or maybe he's really smart, picked them up within a rather short time at the above mentioned small auctions, allowed 2-3 months for the dust to settle, and then made it appear in Craigslist like "the dumb ogre's 928 backyard" Chances being high to drag attention from the 928 owners community and make a nice profit .
