That ad is funny..........

Although I must say, if I was to have my arm twisted into going to a "auto graveyard", this guys place would be first on my list...........Champaign to Augusta only 600+ miles and 10 hours away.

Someone said he quoted $5000 for the S4.

Add says this guy is hard of hearing so speak up when you call. Sounds like fun.

I didn't ask about the S4 but if that's true, I'd run away fast. Oh yeah, I already did.
Anyway, he quoted me $1500 for the Oak Green 80 Euro. I told him no thanks and that's when he said to make an offer. I think he's going to eventually sell them for whatever he can get for them.

Yes, a lot of rust and quite a few missing parts under the hood. I mentioned the missing parts and he said I could take whatever was missing from the other cars. He said the Oak Green Euro was a one owner car that belonged to a professional race car driver. He told me the name but I can't remember. It wasn't a name I recognized.

That explains why all these cars are still there rotting away. What a shame.

Considering that it will probably take $10,000 to get that car up to it's $8,000 value, he owes me $2,000 to take it off his hands!

Nevermind, but thanks for the update.

The trouble with making a low bid isn't if the they say no, its if they say yes.

But since he's a HOARDER, he has stored the cars appropriately for that idiom.

Yes, it's sad, but people who have a remarkably distorted sense of value, unfortunately, are not uncommon. My father in law is a prime example - he thinks his 20-year-old pieces of crap are still worth the price he paid for them.

"I will buy it and fix it up mentality but then I let it sit and rot because I imagine that I will get to it someday."
Well, here's a partial reason for why you sometimes see things like this. I bought my '86 in November 2007. There are a whole lot of things that I 'haven't gotten around to doing'. I've always wanted a 928. When I went shopping for a new car two years ago, I saw one on the corner of a lot, and realized that I could now afford one of my dream cars. Considering that I was underwhelmed by the new stuff that I could afford, I carefully considered what I might be buying. A 928 seemed like a possibility. Then the next two months, I looked around, and picked the nicest one I could find, that I could drive to see. And I bought it. I knew there were going to be lots of things that I could do, but probably wouldn't; I have no garage, only the street with alternate side parking and a course gravel parking spot that won't support jack stands well enough for me to be willing to get under a 3500 pound car and start pulling on it , not to mention dropping small parts that disappear into the spaces in the gravel (but ramps are a reality, so some things I can do). So, the car goes to a local guy I can trust whenever I feel like I can do without it for a while, and gets 'professional' care. Physically, I've had skin cancer; to that rules out spending long periods out in the sunshine working on anything. Arthritis in my knees sometimes means I have trouble even walking; the pain simply not being worth anything I could possibly accomplish with the severely shortened attention span that kind of pain causes (take a knuckle and bury it hard between your ribs, and that's what it usually feels like; then imagine a big hot knife being stuck into you, and that's what it feels like after a day of work). Financially, some people also bite off more than they can chew. While I can comfortably afford one major repair bill a year, for replacing things that haven't gone wrong yet it seems kind of questionable which to do, and that indecision sometimes I do....nothing. Oh, I replace the dangerous things, and the must do's, like timing belt and fuel lines, but the rest, well, I get around to them one at a time. Example is shocks; knowing that bilsteins and konis have different hardware on the shock, I hesitated for a long time before deciding which way to go. A/C? Hey, the car feels cool enough when I'm moving, and that's what I bought it to do, so that can wait. And so it goes. How much things like this may affect other people who buy cars that they 'haven't gotten around to', I always wonder.

So the guys with these collections simply magnified that thought about 20 times. Maybe he's 20 times the car nut I am, and couldn't pass up buying things he thought he'd get around to. Maybe he bought the cars and drove them for a while, then parked them when he saw something else 'shiny', and the process repeated itself.
