Default How to fit door seal

I picked up the "outer door slot" seal, for RHS at reasonable price on eBay. The p/n is 928.537.322.03

My rhs window was pretty scratched, so I thought a new more flexible seal would avoid further damage.

I haven't fitted a new seal before. Please can you let me know correct procedure. Does door card and window have to be removed prior to fitting, or can you work it in with the window fully lowered?

Thanks

I think I did a write-up after doing mine... many years ago, when I had a few less wrinkles in my face.

Remove door panels

Remove glass

Replace seal - most tricky part is to get the rubber lip into the channel in the trim

Reassemble, making sure window is adjusted to shut correctly.

To add a bit to Nicoles post, you will also have to remove the 2 felt window guides and the inner window seal (similar to the outer seal but on the inside portion of the window) along the top edge where the felt guides are.
Note :you might be able to leave the window in place but the felt pads will have to be removed.

Use some sort of silicone lubricant on the seal fittings being careful not to get the stuff on the felt portion of the new seal, start at the back where the curved portion is, this mates up to the top seal

I need to do this too. Why does the door panel need to come off? It doesn't seem to be in the ways.

Use

"outer" AND "window" AND "seal"
"gasket" AND "outer" AND "window"

as search terms and you will find many threads. Subset below:

When you get it. would you please take a good picture of it from the end. I'm wondering about the possibility of having some made.

Jason and StratfordShark,

basically, you take off the door panel so that you can remove the felt window guides. (Re-felt those while they're out.) You have to remove the felt guides so that you can get the window to move enough to work the gasket into place. You work the gasket into place with a lot of lube - use a glycerin-based lube (found in the "personal" section of the grocery store).

The small "curly" bit of gasket in the lower-left of the picture has to be pressed into place. To do that quickly I use a "dental spoon" - that's a dental tool with a small ball-end so that it doesn't scratch - but a very small carefully-wielded screw driver may work just as well.

With the window in-place there is a roughly 3" length of gasket that is hard to seat along the lower part, but it is doable. Use an inspection mirror to make sure you have the gasket seated along the entire length. It can be particularly difficult to seat the gasket along the upward "curl" by the door lock - but that's the most important part as it protects the lock mechanism.

Thanks Dave. Gonna tackle it soon as the broke exhaust bolt is dealt with.
