Default Hall Sensor Wiring Routing

The new hall sensor wiring is shorter than OEM and was curious how folks who have replaced the sensor have routed the cable.

The OEM wiring leaves the bottom of the sensor and then heads straight up so that attaches to its mating connector from above.

I'm thinking the sensor connector could route from below..........any issues?

(i thought I read previous that JDS was concerned about specific cable routes for the hall)

I had this same problem....the part #'s are slightly different too....what Bill & I did on sharky is not use the mounting holder piece and just zip tied it into position on the side of the bracket...that is the only way it would work without a SERIOUS bend in the wire....

Rob's way only works because he has misrouted the harness wire. It's infront of the cam belt cover. It should be behind the cam backing plate. If you can still get the cam belt cover off, no problem. As Brian says, we just didn't try to mount it in the bracket. I don't understand why they changed the Hall sender and why it costs as much as $250 from our 928 vendors.

thx Brian..........I did noticed the diff. in the Bosch part #'s.

The bracket you zip tied to was the engine hoist bracket?

Here's my post from that other thread:

If you loosen the Phillips screw on the cable clamp for the new (shorter-cabled) Hall sensors you can extend the connection cable by the few millimeters necessary to orient the connection in the factory position. Then position the connector in the bracket and wind the Hall sensor into place in the cover and install the assembly on the motor.

Thx Bertrand but therein lies the issue; the pic shows the connector inverted from factory position.

Its a 944 part number but as I mentioned above the Bosch part number is different from OEM. Perhaps the '928' part is NLA.

Not sure where you source parts (assume locally) but the vendor I bought from was slightly above $100.

ok............I tried Daves method of loosening the screw to gain a few mm of cable but I still dont feel comfortable stretching the cable.

Back to square one............is there an electrical/signal issue mounting the connectors inverted?

I can mount the new sensor connector to the holder as well as the spring keeper in the inverted position.

Did you try inserting the connector in the bracket and then placing the body of the sensor in the cover plate? Works for me. It's a tight fit but no stretching occurs once everything's in place.

The early '87s don't have a connector bracket on the cover plate. Worst case, you could use a couple of zip ties through the bracket to retain the connector and then route as-per factory.
