That GT Motor is awesome, well done, I know how much work that takes. The bores look quite thick on the GTS block, you are not going to throw it away are you? It might be salvageable.

Wow Rob, that engine is done.... Hey, just be grateful it had Amsoil in it, or you might have broken down much farther from home...

Mike-

The powdercoating was done by Dan and Big Chris at Orange County Plating- I can't say enough good things about them- They stripped the pieces, then showed them to me to make sure I didn't want to fill all the casting flaws (I didn't bother as they were minor), then they baked them out completely and then PC'ed them in their chrome silver, then clear. It's a little too bright and glossy but it looks pretty good. All told it was about $300, and that included a lot of hand stripping of the valve covers- Apparently whatever the factory used stuck to them very well.

Greg Brown figured out a near-perfect color match (has a hint of gold in it and a more pearlescent look, I posted a shot in the stroker thread) that he's put on my valve covers for the stroker motor, we're now waiting for some additional bits before he's ready to mod my intake and then he'll PC that to match.

Big Chris helped me when I PCed my 2002Tii wheels last year. It sure helps to know your colors, I found it is not close to an exact science and Chris was very helpful with the match. On balancing, we found one wheel must have been "dropped", Chris stood behind their work, re rounded it and put a new finish on without discussion.

Rob, looks like you might end up with a fine display of authentic GTS parts. Obviously you won't get rid of anything until Doc Brown has weighed in.

Ugh. I got a few minutes to cut the connecting rod after dinner and get the piston out of #2. A tiny little ~0.75" dremel cutoff wheel went thru that connecting rod in about 6 minutes.

Not looking so hot:

2 and 6 from below:

#2, piston out

Think I'm gonna need about a 106 mm piston in that bore.

uggghhhh....

I like your new signature phrase. I used to work for a guy who used to say "you can't polish a turd" I would always reply... "but you can reshape it"

It may be a boat anchor, but there are a lot of valuble parts there still. I'm sure it COULD be fixed, but would it be worth the expense?

Ok, forensic metallurgists, riddle me this- how did these rod nuts come off the rod bolts?

I'm going to expand a bit on what sidehatch said and say improper torque and/or not replaced last time it was apart. Just a hunch, I can't point at anything and say "that's why". When properly torqued they stay together for hundreds of thousands of miles.
