Burning Brakes
Adam when dealing with dead 928s take an old trailer hitch ball and weld it to a tow hook then make up a bar with a trailer hitch reciever on each end mine is about 6 ft long then any vehicle with a trailer hitch can either push or pull a dead 928 front or back or any other vehicle with a with a hitch. Awsome job on the engine. What kind of differnce do the 4.5 cams make on the 4.7 and how much work is it to change them? I'm kicking that idea round right now?

The car is a driver right now with a stock 4.5L. The 4.7L died a violent death when something got into the combustion chamber and blew the side out of the cylinder. I liked the way the motor ran, very fast throttle response, good power, but I didn't get to rev it too high.
Not too bad a job on the cam swap, pull off T- belt, remove cam boxes, swap cams and lifters, reinstall. Get replacement gaskets from Precision motor werks.

Car is still at the fabricators getting the cage installed. Got my front wheels back today from the local wheel refinisher. They are hollow spoke 993 twists 18x10 65mm offset. They had a completely beat up chrome finish. I got them for $50 each off eBay. This is what they look like after sand blasting and powder coat. $330' which included mounting and balancing the Toyota RA1's ($50 each off Rennlist ). So $530 total to be able to run 275's up front. Hoping for a big improvement over the 245's I've been running.

They've been Kibortized (see post #104). The rear mounting bolts (in the door opening) are removed as are some of the upper mounting bolts. The lower rear mounting bolt (behind the wheel opening) is unbolted, the rear of the fender is then pulled out of the door opening, and then the lower bolt is reinserted. But instead of going through the hole in the fender, the inner edge of the fender rests against the bolt. The bolt acts as a "stop" to prevent the fender from going back into the door opening. Having the rear of the fender pushed out like this creates an extra inch or more for the wider tires.

Caged at last!
Not cheap. $3196.71. But, that was me driving the car to the fabricator unprepped in any way. They had to bend the pipe, cut out the mounting plates, grind the paint off the welding surfaces, and remove the pod and console to get the front bar in. I only had about five minutes to pay and snap pics today, but from what I saw it looks great. Nascar bars are tight in to the door skins, halo looks like it has lots of helmet clearance, good to go!

So I had a chance to review the receipt for the cage cost today, here's the breakdown:
Labor 32 hours @75/hr = $2400.00
1-5/8" Tubing 62' @ $8.42 = $ 522.04
Tax = $ 274.64
Something that I noticed last night that I haven't recalled seeing on other cages, is that they but a bend in the halo at the highpoint of each door opening to get it to follow tight along the roof line. It's really tucked up in there. Anyone else have this design? I'll post pics when I pick the car up later in the week.

I look forward to seeing it. (mine was done at the same place 3 plus years ago).. Want to see that halo and how it differs from how they put it in my car.
