Default Back Seat Useable?

I'm currently looking at getting myself a 928S4 and was wondering if the backseat is actually useable by kids (without sliding the front seats forward into the dashboard)?

I'm going to be importing one for myself from Japan (he's a high end auto exporter) which is why I don't have a prospective local car to look at, and I don't know anybody with one either

I drove my father, mother and brother from Dallas to OKC. Mom and bro in the back. They survived. I'm 6'2" and kinda survived.

My kids still love to ride in the back. 10 and 13. But my daughter, 13, is petite and ready for the front.

(don't ask about my wife)

Back seats are great for kids and hauling stuff but not much else IMHO. Also good for keeping insurance rated down!

OK, good to know - I have my kids in the car pretty regularly and my wife took one look at the pics and said "no way".

Maybe I'll just buy one and not tell her she's still mad at me for turning my GT-R into a racecar though because she used to like driving it......

The back seats are great for kids... when they are 8 or 9 years old....
And then become good again around 15 - 16...
All you have to do is ask if they want to be dropped of for school in the 928....
They'll find someway to get in!

My kids fit fine in the back of my 928. They are 9, 13, and 16. They find it roomy compared to when I used to cram them in the back of a 944...

My wife insisted that any car I bought at the time have 4 seats so we could haul the kids around if needed. The 928 met that criteria. The kids rode in the backseat 2 or 3 times in the years before they left for college. Mission accomplished.

Most exporters in Japan are pretty shady - I've imported a number of cars.

It's a good thing I'm now very good friends with somebody that is probably the best exporter in Japan (he actually used to run quite a large Porsche place in Australia)

Took some friends to a restaurant, 1/2 hour each way - both wives in the back - 5'-6" 135 lbs with no complaints (except that we were going too fast!!)
I am 6' 230lbs and I can get in but only for a 10 min ride to the pub.

What is nice is the back rests aren't vertical like most 2+2's - they have a comfortable angle.
There is also a huge overhead sun visor to protect the passengers from the sun or flip back to get 1"+ more headroom.

Back seat is O.K. for short wives (4'11") . But best for using the seat belt thru the handle of the icechest to secure it.

Hey rockcrete & penns4, Welcome to the asylum!

Maple Ridge is west of Vancouver, right? There's got to be some 928's around to try the kids out in. We're about 90 miles south but across the border. If the weather ever gets decent around here we could meet you somewhere-- our right feet sorely need exercising!

When you see pic's remember that there is a lot of legroom in the front, and pulling the seats forward a few inches is usually a non-issue (depending on how tall the driver is of course).

Cheers, Jim

The seats themselves are certainly large enough and comfortable enough for kids.

I have one big concern, however, and that has to do with the seatbelts. The lap portion of the belt seems mounted very high to me. I know when I've sat back there it goes across my stomach, and is even worse on kids. In an accident, I'd be very concerned about internal injuries as the lap belt isn't mounted low enough to go across the hip/pelvis. I've even had my kids sit on small, firm pillows to raise them up where the belt would sit lower on them. Anyone else have this concern?

You're buying from Bob? YES the rear seats are the largest in any Porsche, prior to the Cayenne.

I'm sure there are some around - I've seen plenty at the docks coming off the boats from Japan when I've picked up my other cars, I just don't know any Porsche people and don't want to go and waste the time of anyone I'm not buying a car from.......

Maple Ridge is actually an eastern suburb of Vancouver, more or less.......

I'm sure the wife wouldn't complain if I dragged her down to Bellis Fair or the Seattle outlets........
