Back Seat Useable?

My kids (8, 5) fit just fine in the back seats and they love it. I have Britax Star Riser seats which fit well. I found mine on the craigslist locally for $25 and $40. Most other boosters are too wide I have found. Most other Britax (Marathon, Runabout) fit too but belts are harder to tighten.

Medium sized kids fit best. The one's that don't need booster seats. The huge toddler seats are a little tight as they place the kid so far forward and thier feet have nowhere to go except straight forward into the seatback of the front seats. Infant seats work fairly well. Back the front seat backwards to wedge the infant seat in.
I occasionally take my 8 and 10 year old to school. No problemo. I wouldn't do a long road trip with them that way though.
I am impressed with the 3-across back seat seating of an M3. Haven't brought myself to trading yet.

Maybe the trick is to get the kids addicted to the car early on, so they will be used to taking any amount of torment to be in the cool car all the time.
The seats themselves are certainly large enough and comfortable enough for kids.
I have one big concern, however, and that has to do with the seatbelts. The lap portion of the belt seems mounted very high to me. I know when I've sat back there it goes across my stomach, and is even worse on kids. In an accident, I'd be very concerned about internal injuries as the lap belt isn't mounted low enough to go across the hip/pelvis. I've even had my kids sit on small, firm pillows to raise them up where the belt would sit lower on them. Anyone else have this concern?

I guess it depends a bit on the size of the front seat passengers in question. Big 6 foot + guys don't have a lot of space behind their seats. 5 foot 1 inch gals like me can fit her kids behind her forever.
