Glad you're OK, SoCalGirl. Close call. I hope your heart has finally quit racing.

Not long ago my Chevy 4WD's engine bay literally exploded into an inferno. Broken fuel line. Two fire extinguishers later (Halon is wonderful) it was out..but totalled. I loved that truck so just gave it to a friend with a similar truck to use for parts. It smelled really bad inside from smoke damage and I'm just glad I extinguished it before it ignited my 928 sitting next to it.

Spooky stuff...engine fires. I now have (4) four 5-lb fire extinguishers in the garage and always carry a Halon (or Halatron) in my P-cars. You just never know.

As others have said, now is a great time to buy a 928. Don't forget the PPI and install new gas lines.

This brings up something I have been thinking of. I don't want to be goulish, or wake up any sleeping dogs. but in the past year or so there have been two deaths discussed on the forum where a 928 crossed lanes or went of the road at a high rate of speed and burned up. I have wondered if the drivers were facing the same situation Lisa faced. I know there were other explanations, but sadly, they were not given by the drivers involved. But even the suspicion that engine fires could have been involved makes me even more sensitive about the condition of my engine compartment.

Wow, condolences for Leeeroy and glad you weren't physically harmed.

My first car, a 68 Ford Station Wagon had an engine fire on the way to get my senior picture taken. I was a really bright kid...I pulled into a gas station, jumped out, and ran in to get a fire extinguisher. The "good ol' boys" were eating lunch and were very unconcerned until I pointed out that it was sitting right next to their gas pumps, then they somehow got all excited about it, found an extinguisher, and put it out. Surprisingly, I was able to limp it home for more serious repairs after replacing the busted fuel line. Never did get the heater to work after that.

If the clutch looses fluid (from the blue line or master or slave cylinder seals) the clutch stops working fairly instantly BTDT but the brakes keep working because there is a dam in the reservoir that effectively makes two separate reservoirs inside the one container. Designed in safety feature - loss of clutch prevents you driving the car with a fluid leak but the brakes still work.

We drove over 100 miles across Germany with a failed clutch line and didn't loose any fluid from the brake circuit.

I'm a bit surprised that any car enthusiast uses Geico. They have a reputation that in the past they provided radar guns to local Police departments, so they could make more money off more drivers with tickets on their records. Maybe it's been a while, but still... it's the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear Geico.

Well, its gone pretty far off topic now. At least we made it into 5 pages before the tasteless section joined. Better than the last time Lisa posted here IIRC.

I smell beer on Rob's post. Ignore that kind of stuff and move on.

Rob, hide the keys to the computer for a while, man!

I lost my brakes doing an acceleration testing in my SRT 4 on a large fenced in parking lot. I was boosting 22 psi and the vacuum line blew off the brake booster. Stepping on the brake pedal was like stepping on a brick with no slowing down. With the fence fast approaching I crank the wheel to spin the car. It did stop just short of the fence. I was not thinking of down shifting or hand brake at the time. I now have hose clamp on that brake vacuum hose.

Porsches don't need boost for the brakes to function just fine, so it's a bit different from the SRT, I think.
