That's a riot Malcolm. Reminds me when I was in Jr. High and one of my friend's '76 YZ 125 wouldn't start. My other friend took the motor entirely apart, cleaned and reset everything, put it back together, and still no start. Our other friend, the total BS'er/Bench Racer type, sat on the bike, bent down and pulled out the spark plug, lit his Marlboro ciggy and then took the match to the plug, screwed it back in, and it fired first kick.

This is why I like 928's ...Close to the same thrill...minimizing the potential suicide factor...1974 Z-1A (Modified) .. Still in the garage, owned it since '75...think I have a buyer after spending a year on ebay getting all the resto parts and then I bought the 928........oh well. Only time for one project.
had and sold the Harley too (FXDWG)....may go back yet.

Well I don't have a picture handy, but I ride a slightly modified 1985 Honda V65 Magna. Actually have had it since 1988.
My first ride was a Honda 50cc mini-trail back in 1972.

From the 70's when I owned a Honda-Norton-Guzzi-CZ shop, one racing my Velocette Venom Thruxton 500, the other of a post-war Velo KSS (notice those Dowty Oleomatics up front!) that I restored. I even learned to gild to do those tank stripes myself! At this point the fishtail was out for restoration and rechroming so it's not complete. Fun thread, I've really enjoyed it all.

Well, Everyone,

Seeing this post inspired me to do something that I have wanted to for a long time.

Yesterday, I got the courage to introduce myself to the woman who pulled out from a stop sign 2 1/2 years ago into my right-of-way and clobbered me while riding that 1974 BMW that I posted a pic of behind the two 928s in this thread. The collision fractured my skull badly enough that the blood from my head saturated the back of my leather jacket and the buttocks of my jeans. i cannot remember the accident at all and could only go by the police report. I was in the ICU for a week and could not work for a little more than a year. Although her insurance company tendered the entire policy, she was underinsured in my opinion. I received her full $100,000 of coverage before the attorney's fees and PAs right of subrogation law permitting the health care providers to stick their hand in the pay-out pot (to the tune of $70,000 in paid out care for me.) I didn't get much out of it which is what I explained to other driver yesterday. She was quite sympathetic to my situation and asked what she could do to help rectify things. I suggested that I am healed to the point of being ready to get back on my bike but it is still damaged from the accident (bent forks and lots of bent up ancillary stuff like turn signals, gas tank, headlamp, etc.) and had to use the money for the bike damage to pay some routine bills as I was out of work at the time. She indicated that she was going to see what she could do to get my bike restored for me. She also felt bad that she never contacted me afterward to see how I was doing. She said her insurance carrier and attorney frightened her into not communicating with me.

Anyway, It felt great just to get a hug from her when I left her home and even if she is unable to restore the bike, I feel as if there is finally some closure in the accident that changed my life.

Thank you all for inspiring the courage to finally go talk to her.

Wow is right. I'm glad you came out of that intact!

And I applaud your courage to reach out to the driver and I'm heartened to read that she responded the way she did.

In my mind the hug says it all. In times when lawyers and insurance policy types hold such sway over people, its great to hear that two people can reach out and share a bit of humanity. It is surely helping to heal the souls of both of you.

Your story helps restore my faith in people.

Here's my current project, an '87 Hurricane 1000, it was dissassambled when I got it. It's near museum quality. Had a blown cylinder (a vavle broke and destoyed everything) when I bought it last fall. Got it finally running 2 weeks ago. Had a red and black one over 10 years ago and accidently sumbled across this one. It was in too good of a shape to pass it up. Can't wait to ride again.
