I had been looking for a nice older Ducati but managed to stumble into a killer deal on a yellow 96' Triumph Daytona 1200. It's a Euro model with 5200 miles (8700km) and almost flawless. It's heavy (496#) but with 147hp it should get out of it's own way...even came with Micron carbon cans! Brought it home last night. I'd post pics but I am going riding!

Here's my submission, the Desert 100, a 100 mile race in eastern WA. There were about 700 people in the race that year in 2004.

It was my first race ever at age 44. I had a great time. I'm on the left, #137, heading to the start line. We lined up, 700 people. On the start, you funnel into an opening in a fence about 1/2 mile away. Then on to two 50 mile laps.






Here I am about 40 mile in one of tighter sections. Most of it was high speed two track.

Started riding in Pennsylvania 1965 - 50cc Yamawho.
Many bikes street/enduro/dirt. Hond- dew's, Yama-who's, Sue-suckee's
Favorite old style street stormers 83' Suzuki 750 and 1100. Awesome stock,
bodacious when BUILT!
Favorite enduro Kawasaki Bighorn.
When I raced -motoX- Maico 400cc and 501's. They would dig boulders out of the ground and launch
them into the Honda/Suzuki wheel doggers behind me dis-mounting them like a 12 gauge blast.
I quit when I retired from the Army in 92' as they were killing bikers here in Midland like there was a bounty on em'. When my son decided to start riding 2 years ago -a new gsxr 750- with no prior experience- I nixed the sale and found a low-mile 99' Suzuki 750 GSXR Fairfax, VA for Zack and a GSX 1100 G in SeaTac for me. Flew to Va tested and shipped the 750, flew to SeaTac and picked up the 1100 and rode home.
What an IDIOT! Bad knee's, hadn't rode since 92' -over 13 years- and rode thru three states in a downpour and the 1st big snow in the Rockies from east to west to Denver. Whole trip from flight out of Midland to arrival at house under 5 days. Goofy!
On the upside, I rode all winter with few exceptions for the last 2 years while my Harley riding co- workers - "Be a REAL MAN, get rid of that ricer and get a real bike!" Harley, maybe? :<) - while they cringed in mute silence. Seems like the manly men don't need helmets or windshields, or do they?
Zack is wary of his GSXR and no longer wants a Busa. That little thing is awesome though, cruise at 65 in 4th, twist the wick and she simply lifts the front tire. Totally controllable, not like the old daze when you had to work for a wheelie on say: a Suzuki 750 water-buffalo - I had a J model, the pimp purple one-.
Goes without saying to those involved ... it's a way of life.

In '73, '74, or '75, my brother's best friend built a Penton 125, raced it in the Barstow-to-Vegas desert race, and I hear he got lost, DNF? If I understand the time frame, this was when the course wasn't a closed course?

Anyway, I happen to have that engine. Few other parts. I've been looking for a rolling chassis for quite a while, so if anyone should happen to come across one, at a reasonable cost? An exhaust pipe will also be needed..... Perhaps one with a blown engine would be best.....

Pentons would be rare at this point I think, most were bought to race. Weren't they Suzuki based? You might try ebay...

Penton's were Sachs powered. Yes, a very competitive machine at the time.

Sachs sold their engines to many builders. I wouldn't mind a DKW roller... But most of the others were shaky at best...

Rice rockets when younger, dirt bikes for play, then fat hog for cruise. Now, if i get an hour of riding in a year, im lucky. This racing obsession has really killed my other hobbies.

I loved the RD350! That was a cool bike and lighting fast. (as i remember it) real quick. what about the kawi 500 and 750s with chambers in the day! downright dangerous!

I had an R5 for awhile.... This was the non-reed valve precursor to the RD series.

Looks like that guy fell for that ol' wife trap. Gives you the green light to get something and then does a 180 and tries to hammer you. Women are crazy as hell.

I too, don't wish the thread to end, but it needs contributions...

While I can't add much without questions or statements I can answer to, I have a question, which may be outside the particular thread here:

Does anyone know a business that mandrel bends tubing? I need an exhaust pipe made, for my oldest bike.
