A friend from the club we were in came to the US from Greece to visit we went out on both my RG's that day.
The factory claim was 11.30's in the 1/4 mile for the RG500 and 11.80's in the 1/4 mile for the little 1985 RG400.
The 1986 RG500 ran the best of 7.63 in the 1/8 mile at around 92mph.
2 stroke 4 cylinder motors that had one heck of a powerband around 50hp at 7500 rpm
then close to 50more horse came in from 7500-9500rpm that was the best part of the ride:-)
Wet weight was 406lbs

Kind of off topic these were my 2 BMX bikes made by Yamaha and Kawasaki
The Yamaha Moto-bike is a 1976
The Kawasaki is a 1975 all aluminum made only 1 year both were the bmx bike made then Yamaha had the working front forks and rear shocks while Kawasaki had only the rear working shocks.

Like the old enduro bikes mostly everything was metal.
Even put some of my newer vintage style gel grips on.
Ah, the nemesis to my 1971 Kawasaki G4TR-A:
(Not my actual bike, but mine looked exactly like this).

The 1986 RG500 was only 500cc but a 2stroke and ran 7.60's in the 1/8th mile
which for 1986 was one of the fastest small cc bikes around. Will list few more pictures for anyone who likes the 2strokes.
Very nice. Back in '91 I had a Yamaha RZ500. What a giant killer it was. Never had a chance to own a RG but from what I remember, the two bikes are very close to each other. They stunk like $hit too! lol

Adam - Funny but I have a 1969 Yamaha CT 175 I am just wrapping up on a total restore. Looks almost the same. I love those old enduros!

sold this a few months ago. Not as light as my NSR250s but nonetheless a GREAT bike.

I never had any problems around the yard with misquitoes when I fired up both of those 2 strokes:-) Theres nothing like the smell of a 2stroke.They were 100hp weed wacker motors lol.The Yamaha RZ500 was a nice bike also.Didn't want to sell the bikes and parts but when a good offer came sold everything.

I loved my RD 350, and definitely would like to get into water cooled 2 stroke street bike. How tough are the federalized RG's and big RZ's to find? Can't be easy.

My current ride... '03 Buell XB9. Great bike, can't seem to keep from spinning the tire bald though. Put on a new set of tires since thes pics, if only there were some decent roads to ride on near Houston!

Not the greatest picture from my Iphone, but this is my Yamaha FZ6R up on Mosquito Ridge in CA. Been really happy with the bike - its my first so its a very easy bike to ride but has enough sport in it to keep me happy.

Adam, you'll have to catch a ride on this thing one of these days.

Early morning goon riding, had just looped it (ripped off the rear fender, trashed the silencer, some other misc damage) but got right back on it for some more hoogilanisms.

Some of the carnage to my '02 YZ250:
