The funride has sputtered a bit. I got a call from Mike from Lee Vining, CA. Seems the car started to sputter sporadically then more often and 100 miles later finally died. Initially it seemed to Mike that the fuel pump was not running, but after reviewing that and jumping the relay, it became clear that is not the problem. He has spark and fuel but it appears the fuel pump is not getting its signal from the LH and even after jumping the FP relay and replacing the LH and EZK relays and assuring the fuel pump is working, the car turns over normally but will not start. Jim B suggested jumping the ignition monitoring relay too. Mike ordered a replacement LH overnight. Hope that's it.

FEDEX has a brain in their hands for overnight delivery ! Mike said it was getting cold and windy and he has had enough fun for today. He hoped the motel had internet....time will tell.

(OK, improper english)..
I'm starting to recall my full tilt boogey drive with RSKY BIZ, ATL -->DFW...
Ahhh, seems like only yesterday...
If not the internet, perhaps they'll have a good 'snuggling movie' to keep warm!
Hopefully they can regroup with a good brain in the AM...
Thanks for the updates!

Yep, things have gone south a bit. I got the order in to Jim at the last minute and the LH is on it's way. Things could be better but they could be much worse. We made it through Yosemite. They are closing the pass in Yosemite tonight because of weather. If we had stopped there, I'm not exactly sure what the outlook would have been. We were at the Yosemite Visitor Centor when the sputtering began. Now we are right next to Lake Mono. The view is spectacular. Not much else but a damned nice view.
We'll see what happens in the morning. Hopefully the new brain will fix the problem and we'll be on our way. There's a chance of snow here, too. Driving a GT through the mountains in the snow seems strangely familiar.

Mike or Bill, if anyone is looking at this thread- when I was looking over the car, it was idling, and when I opened the hood, it died--- I shut the hood and got in and it restarted and stayed running no problem- I first thought it was the alarm, which is why I closed the hood. Once I restarted it, it seemed fine even with the hood open, but I think it may be worth checking out the alarm circuit and see if has a "disable" function that is going hinky....just something to cross off the list.
Hope its something simple...

Mike, I see you posted here- now that I think about it, I would go out and disconnect the hood switch on the pass side of the engine compartment, right next to the crossbar mount (a little button with a rubber accordion cover on it). I believe it is a simple open-close switch that the hood presses down on when closed. If you disconnect one wire, it should see that as the hood is closed. Easy enough to try....

Mike-
Hope you get it sorted out! Sounds like you got the back-up contacts in place.
HEY, MAKE THE MOST OF IT -- TAKE PICS OF THE SCENERY!
Heck, I had to stop in Mississippi... nothing against Mississippi...
Just that the term 'spectacular view' didn't come to mind...
GREAT peeps, tho.
Hang in there!

I'm so sorry to hear this! After all, it was my suggestion to cross through Yosemite, since the Tioga pass was still open... I hope the weather holds-up, and you can get back on the road without delay after brain replacement (on the car, of course)

Mike, you have the PO's phone number too, right? If things aren't resolved quickly tomorrow it might be worth giving him a call.

Something easy to check: Some MY (like my 86.5 have) have 2 cable connections onto the positive battery post. They secure onto the post with separate nuts. A stop-no-start situation requiring 2 tows was solved when I bothered to check the battery connections for firmness. Improperly secured connections at the battery post didn't prevent cranking, but quite upset the LH computer. I assume you've looked at the battery connections?
