The Wharf, adjacent to Cannery Row is also a great place to get some marinated squid. Note the sounds of the seals. Sounds like thousands of German Shepherds barking at the tourists. I met some very interesting folks while in Monterey. Several of whom lived out on 17 mile drive. I remember working out at the Del Monte fitness center with Herm Edwards, now head coach of the Chiefs, who, at that time ,had just been in the Super Bowl. I vividly recall going to the local Disco and witnessing him being turned away, apparently for a dress code violation. Many things are different now. Have a great time and take lots of pics. Do not! miss the coastal drive. I promise Tennessee will not be in the mix. G

+1 - and George, when I attended DLI it was still called the Army Language School, with classes in the old 11th Cav barracks - so that dates me, I guess. Also got to see a few interesting folks there thanks to the proximity of Laguna Seca, people like Graham Hill, Lance Reventlow, and many other great and not-so-great drivers of that era.

Mike -
Congrats on the awesome shark-find!
I would love to 'pay it forward' and gtg, AND I think I might be able to work the timing to head to OK City.

Halloween?
We got the National Cowboy Museum, OKC Memorial, and a great steak joint "Cattleman's" next to the stockyards.

A new hotel in Norman (15 minutes south of OKC) called me just yesterday asking if they could host some kind of Porsche event if "others" (you Dallas guys) wanted to come in to OKC.
Again -- 'I'm in!'. . . (but I gotta say, it ain't cos of the Cowboy Museum, etc.)..
It's about the people!

RT 40 is very boring Sean stopped just to look at a big hole in the ground , how bored was he ??
I'm sure glad YOU said it, and not me! But... yeah, what Jim said... Enjoy the coastal drive and views... And take lots of pics 'there!'

Yes, a 'nail down'...or a contact person to coordinate and disseminate updates would be a good thing.
I nominate OKD (whose already) in OKC for this leg of your journey!
OKD-
What hotel is that in Norman, btw? Might make this a quick 'getaway' trip!

Mike:

Nicole and I and I hope svp928 should be able to join you on the 29th. If it's not too late for the 17-mile drive before the sun goes down, we should do that.

Don't forget Bricktown and the canal. Most outsiders are taken by surprise to see that entertainment district.

Regarding Norman, keep in mind that OU plays Nebraska Nov. 1 in Norman with a 7pm kickoff. As such, the hotel you reference may be booked and/or the town packed depending on the timing of Mike's arrival.

The current plan has us staying Friday night in Gallup, New Mexico which is ~650 interstate miles from OKC.

Ok, class. Here's your math problem for the day.

A Porsche 928 leaves a hotel in Gallup, New Mexico at 5:00 A.M. on a Saturday morning carrying two adults and a well stocked cooler travelling east on I-40 at the highest rate of speed that the local law enforcement will allow. At what time will the 928 reach OKC and how many drinks will the passengers need at the time of arrival to wind down from the drive?

Be sure to air up the rear tires for high speed running 40 PSI plus . Our friend Dewayne had a rear tire seperate/ bulge in Gallop heading west with his new S-4....no one in Gallup had the correct size tire so he rented a U-haul truck and trailer for the last leg of HIS cross country trip... D C to Ca this month. Might want to check the "birth date" code on the tires as well.

It would be great to see you again, Sterling. Is your 928 currently fully assembled or will you be travelling without it again?
I'd love to see it......someday.

Thanks Bill,
It will be great to meet you and maybe get you to give the car a quick once over. Our flight lands at 12:01 and the seller is close by and picking me up at the airport so I expect we'll have plenty of daylight left after we pick up the car. As always, the anticipation is killing me.

For OKC GTG Saturday Afternoon/evening I need to know about how many are planning to show. I am thinking Pearl's Lakeside. Easy to get to and lots of parking. I would like to reserve a room if we can expect 15 to 25 people.

As for Hotel, I forgot about the OU game, I will look for something closer to Pearl's. Again I need a head count to see if we can get a discount.

Oh yeah, my gestimated arrival time...650 miles, 5am departure...no radar detector 3pm, w/radar detector 1pm.

If Mike and his wife will be arriving early to mid-afternoon, and provided the weather is good (no rain), I'll bring the GT over.

I have a Jenks Public School Foundation Silent Auction/Dinner that evening, at which my bank has reserved a table and my wife and I are committed to attend. I need to be headed back from OKC no later than 5pm.

My guess on their ETA: 2pm

We'll get there as early as we can. I'm not sure how long it will take to make the drive but I can call with progress reports along the way if it will help. I don't have a radar detector but am thinking of buying one before the trip.

Where's the rest of the DFW gang? I'll even bring you souvenirs from the Grand Canyon.
