Sounds like it could be a good time.

Sounds like a fantastic 928 vacation adventure to me no matter what your exact route home is! Definitely take any & all opportunities to meet as many fellow 928ers that you can along the way! You'll remember the people long after you forget a place, road, or attraction.

Mike--

Figure out how to add some days if you can, and do a little more grand TOURING on the way home. Just 'cuz you're driving a fast car doesn't mean you can't take your time. I've done more than a few coast-to-coast dashes, not enough at a casual pace. Life's too short to just watch the world blur by, even if it is through a 928 window at warp speed.

Safe journeys my friend!

Mike, since I actually live in Monterey, I'd like to join you all for dinner, at least, or answer any Q's you may have about the area. Nicole has given you pretty good rundown on some of the things around here..

Taking the drive down to Santa Barbara is 3 1/2 hours or so but a pretty drive even though you only get 150 mile closer to home. Frankly once you leave the coast and head East there is NOTHING to see !! I have made the Lubbock Tx , L A run and LA Lubbock ...high point is the RT 66 Casino near AlbaQ N Mexico . RT 40 is very boring Sean stopped just to look at a big hole in the ground , how bored was he ??

Just curious, how likely are you to run into snow around Flagstaff the 1st of November? My guess is probably not at all, but it might be worth thinking about.

I would take Hwy 1 to Santa Barbara Wednesday afternoon. We were in SB last weekend and the trip along PCH is very nice. Coming south also puts you through the LA basin on Thursday (after rush hour), so the traffic shouldn't be too bad. It also puts you in the neighborhood of a few dozen 928 friendlies should you have any issues with the new beast before you head east.

If you drop down through LA, you could always take 15N out of LA back up to I-40 at Barstow and head east. I-40 through Arizona is great, the rest of I-40, notsomuch. Take the 120 mile (roundtrip) detour up to the Grand Canyon from Williams, AZ if you haven't been before. Or you can just drone on I-10E forever. Like Jim says, the last 75% of the trip isn't going to be too exciting....

Hopefully Jarrod Wise would be able to make the drive from Tulsa as well.
Mike-Barring scheduling conflicts, I should be able to make a Norman/OKC gathering. I've been meaning to go over there anyway to see RKD's new GTS.

Also, I'll PM you my cell number and that of my mechanic Tom Charlesworth, should you have any mechanical difficulties while passing thru eastern Oklahoma. Hopefully others along your route will do so as well.

I hope we can get this put together and you can make it, Sean. I don't think we've ever met but perhaps we have if you've been to SITM. Either way, I hope to see you there.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, Dr. Bob. I'll talk to the boss but I'm guessing we're going to need to be home before Tuesday. We'll see how it goes. I think the sun will still come up Tuesday morning even if we haven't made it home yet.

I hope you can join us for a drive and dinner. The more the better.
Do you still think you will be able to check out the car for me? If so, I'll get in touch with the seller and set it up. Let me know and thanks again.

Certain aspects of that area never change Mike. Don't miss them. If you get a chance, run up the hill and view the Defense Language Institute, Presidio of Monterey. Go by Lovers' Point and see if anyone is catching any waves. You can then round Asilomar and other local points of interest. The Wharf, adjacent to Cannery Row is also a great place to get some marinated squid. Note the sounds of the seals. Sounds like thousands of German Shepherds barking at the tourists. I met some very interesting folks while in Monterey. Several of whom lived out on 17 mile drive. I remember working out at the Del Monte fitness center with Herm Edwards, now head coach of the Chiefs, who, at that time ,had just been in the Super Bowl. I vividly recall going to the local Disco and witnessing him being turned away, apparently for a dress code violation. Many things are different now. Have a great time and take lots of pics. Do not! miss the coastal drive. I promise Tennessee will not be in the mix. G

The boss has given me clearance for our weekday meet today - barring any emergencies for the upcoming trade show.

I will coordinate with Bill to meet you there. He is at Sharktoberfest rigiht now, but we should be able to get this organized next week.

Who else from the area is interested in joining or meeting-up with us in Monterey?

Great, Nicole. I'm glad I can be an excuse for you to take a day off.
I've been working on the plan for the road trip. There sure is a lot to see out west and it's all stuff I've never seen before. It looks like we're going to have to drive straight through the last couple of days to make up for the time we spend sightseeing out west. Good thing we'll be in a 928. Anybody got a V1 I can borrow?

Are you planning on a stop/GTG in OKC?
If so, what day/time so we can do some planning ourselves?

Absolutely!
It looks like we'll be there sometime Saturday, 11/01. I'll try to nail it down tonight and let you know for sure.
