Its not so much of killing lift when backward, as it is huge flat plate parachute.
(actually a reverse spoiler as found on airliner wings)

The only drag we create on purpose is vi the wing/ground spoilers...you see them deploy on landing, popping up from the wing. Nascar has a similar feature on the roof hatch whne the car spins sideways on its way to being backwards...roof panel pops up..kills lift.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canard_(aeronautics)

as i mentioned, canards are basically the elevators of an airplane, up front. in the basic definition, its having the "Tail section" up front . .

"I have flown airplanes with canards. These, Mr aero, are no canards"

Hey, he came to us. All this info will help. And you are right. they work when installed correctly. I was trying to provide some information to help on that topic.
they shouldnt stickout past the side of the car
they should be integrated with some kind of splitter
and, they look funnny if they dont take follow the suggestion of the above.

Ive already got the data on the testing of a splitter vs no splitter and the force acting on the dive planes. It would be good to follow the designs of race cars that have been to the wind tunnel tool. Just tacking something on the side of the car is not really going to do anything and does look kind of odd.

By the way, sorry for ripp'n on the name. It seems that a lot of the bolt on ricer boys and bolt on shops are calling these dive planes, "canards". By definition, they are not really canards, but I guess like many things in the automotive industry, names like this will just stick.

Carl, sincerest appologies, I am sorry for carrying on like a dip ****, or for being Douchey.

I appologize, my posts did become insane ranting and that does no one any good. I do still strongly disagree with you though.

We should just argue over beers instead!

Cheers!

Unfortunately things can too often get out of hand here. But in the end, we do all love the same car. So that makes us all a family in a way.

Wow, from pure hatred and harsh words... to even harsher words... to love all around. This is a family of car freaks I can get on board with.

Hopefully we can all agree that there's nothing more beautiful than...

... a beautiful beautiful Porsche 928 driving along on a beautiful windy road in front of a beautiful sunset with a beautiful girl sitting in the passenger's seat....

.... and also, you're drunk.
