I just talked to Mark and it was slipping before he changed the plate. He changed it last night and raced on it today with no problems. I'll let him fill in the details.

I made it out there on Sunday....Mark drove well and finished 4th in class behind a VERY tricked out mustang that crushed the field....it had a Rousch nascar motor, race tranny, CF roof and doors and was about 2 inches off the ground...fully race setup...very trick...then the SC S2000, M3 and Mark.....MK did have a nice battle going with the 2nd SC S2000 until he spun in the carousel.... The new Intl pressure plate held great and MK was happy with how the car was running...

A funny note was on the start....the Camaro with 445rwhp was side by side with MK going up the steep hill....and the Camaro couldn't pull MK and had to back off in the corner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :>) Then the camaro spun a bit later....right after the race he came to MK and claimed he jumped the start since there "was no way, you can stay with me" up the hill......................... :>) Of course he didn't know about the stroker.... ha ha :>) Of course MK forgot to mention the new motor....

Went out to Infineon today with Charley B. Met Kevin B, his daughter, Dennis K and Greg M.

Mark placed 3rd today behind the runaway Rousch powered Mustang and just behind Rylan's turbo'd 395RWHP S2000. He stayed a pretty consistent 20-50 yard gap behind Rylan, although he made a pretty good move up at one point and almost passed him. The 445RWHP Camaro was 10-75 yards further back. The BMW M3 was many seconds back from there.

There's no way the Camaro could claim a jump start today. Mark maintained a good lead on him throughout the race.

The stroker motor ran fine. Mark was concerned because it ran with the water temp gage a hair over the second white line, which I told Mark is probably fine. More HP, more heat, but the second white line should be about 195F. We need to IR gun the radiator. For that matter the radiator is stock original one that came with the car! Mark should consider getting a decent racing radiator and external oil cooler as well as adding an external tranny cooler during the off-season. And tuning the torque monster for more top-end HP.

Wasn't he encouraged to get a larger oil cooler? That would lower rad temps too.

I wouldn't say encouraged. Todd said it was not an option to run this motor with the stock (much less used) oil cooler.

For some dumb reason more then a few people got the impression the new cooler was already in the car.

I would do something about the coolant temps. At least move the oil cooler and give the radiator a good flushing. I'm going to assume a colder then stock thermostat is installed.


Oh well, water under the bridge. Sounds like an awesome race and the car performed very well. Time to move forward with the fine tuning & squeeze out some more HP!!

It was great to see Mark W/ the new motor Sunday/Monday. Listening to the guy in the Camero after the race on Sunday claiming that Mark jumped the start not knowing about the "new" motor was priceless. This was worth the build in itself. Mark kept the motor looking "stock" so there is no way you can tell anything had been done to it, it was great! My hats off to Mark and Bill they did a great job W/ no issues and it showed this weekend

Thanks for coming out an watching! It was great seeing the gang out there!

With the confidence of the newer (still very old) tires, knowing that shortshifting was not an option along with the knowledge that the new power and torque would allow me to drag with the best of them (even the compCoupes) ,I went out got a flyer qual lap that got me up near the front in 3rd position. On the start, the camaro was hungry to get by, but i was able to drive narrow enough to keep him off. Ironically, he was eating me up on the turns and under braking. Im thinking the suspension is shot as well. (Tires were still a factor here as I was using my last years practice and commute tires, over 20 heat cycles old).

Water temps after half way, were at the white line. I was getting close to the Supercharged S2000, and through traffic, almost had a couple of breaks, but never really got a clean shot. turns out, that was a good reason to short shift a bit, and still outpace the pressing camaro while letting the oil and water temps drop a bit.

The good news is Laguna is the next race, and it seeems to favor the 928 better, and maybe I might be able to get some tuning in before the next big race at the end of September. I have a set of pretty new '07 WCGT toyos just waiting for the occasion! Also, Im sure it will be a lot cooler there!

Water temps were a concern, but so was oil. This race was a little more intence and the weather was hotter as well. (near90) Oil temps got to 260F. Ill see if i can get that oil out of the water coling and in its own radaitor soon!

Its funny. I still drove the car to the track. It got near 20mpg to and from , however, on track fuel usage went up by about 40%. used to be near 7 gallons for a green flag to flag race, now its more like 10.

Thats all for now . Video to be up tomorrow . It turned out great!

By the way, im now smoking on up shifts and power outs of slow right handers. I think i finally need to invest in a breather system. I lost about a 1/2 a quart in the race. But none really in qualifying or the drive to an from the track 80 miles one way.

The clutch worked out well thanks to Mark and 928intl! I was a little nervous about changing it at the track. ended up dealing with it during qualifying and changed it in the evening. took about 2hours and could have been done in 1 if i didnt forget what side of the bellhousing the sleeve mounted to

Yes, the stock breather system is a joke for high speed driving. The amount of crankcase breathing is miniscule and that tiny hose on the top of oil filler neck is the primary source for oil dumped into the intake. At the very least we should pull that off the intake and cap the intake fitting and run the filler neck line to catch can. Joe Fan loses a quart in 30 minutes. Lots of things to fix.

Your water temp didn't bother me even if higher than before, but the oil temp should be better controlled, even with Amsoil, and moving that out of the radiator will bring the water temp down. I would hunt down an oil cooler right away. With these higher oil temps you might see the radiator sidetank start to bulge. My (automatic) tranny cooler sidetank did and then leaked. After only two open road races, the new sidetank has bulged again. I'm in need of an external tranny cooler.

The clutch now is REAL hard to get into first and reverse. It also requires a full pedal depression that it didnt require before to change gears smoothly. could this be due to the pressure plate, although that doesnt seem likely, or could the intermediate plate need adjustment? If it does, does it have to be removed to do it? I think its bad enough that it could force additional wear on the synchos vs how it was before. Is there anything else it can be?

Actually, I ended up in 2nd! The Mustang was penalized 6 places for passing under yellow when the other 500hp mustang went into the wall at turn 10 toward the end. Man, that was a BEAUTIFUL car, and its a disaster now!

The Viper comp coupe driver came over and said i pushed him in the dirt on turn 2. Thanks to video, you can see that clearly wasnt the case. Ill have it up today.

Here is a pick of the front runners from the 1st race.

The mustang will give Mark Andeson fits if they are able to battle at the end of September. 1:42.xx with 750hp and the best of the best of the Griggs Racing design.

Great driving Mark. I wish I had a radio to tell you that they weren't showing double yellows at start finish and you were free to drag race Rylan out of 11 to the checkers.
