OK, so now you need to give it up for something nuts like half a year, and have a lunatic guy with the last name of Brown hand-rebuild the motor to 6.5 liters of v8 goodness....

I'll let you know if it's worth it, in another month or two

Hey welcome to the dark side my friend. Looks like my car's slightly more handsome evil twin... arrg you even have the rub-strip-delete-option! sweet interior combo too. sweet. I figured it was a late vin for the model year since the intake manifold has the fins on it. beautiful car, you got a nice one!

What are Oil Squirters I have #0408

You probably have them then. do a search for 'oil squirters' and 'vin' and you could track down to the approx cut off. some of the guys like Vilheur (sp?) have posted some good info on this.

Very nice! Just got an '87 928 S4 myself a few weeks ago. AT, Black, with linen interior. Just over 40k miles on it. It's pretty much completely stock except for RMB and upgraded sound system and alarm. I've been researching these cars for years and am psyched to finally have an opportunity to own one and means to care for her! Really looking forward to learning more about the 928 experience!

cmcates,

Welcome to the shark tank! Good choice. I love the S4's...I think they are BY FAR the best bang for your 928 dollars! Maybe an '84-'86 Euro S, but those are hard to find and even harder to find in good condition. S4's are easy to find, parts and knowledge are readily available too!

Great choice! Now that you are fully infected the jump on board the crazy train with the rest of us!

- Never heard filter whine. Just to make sure it's the fuel pump, you can temporarily pull the fuel pump relay and jump pins 30 to 87 on the CE panel plug so the fuel pump will run when the car is stopped.

Driver mirror goes up/down but not left/right
- Mine did the same thing and proved to be a broken wire in the harness where it flexes behind the door panel even though it was inside a harness sheath.

Rear tire clearance on left is ½ inch, right is 1 inch (no tire impact, but this seems tight)
- Could be just the body panels. My car is off in the same way 5mm left to right but the thrust alignment is perfect.
Can someone provide details on fuel pump replacement for an 87? I've searched threads for specifics on 87 without luck.

This might get you started. Be sure and replace the filter at the same time.

You don't have an in-tank pump only the one you see in the above link.

Order the pump and filter. The filter should come with the check valve already installed. (Ask to make sure) I have used 2 filters in the past 2 weeks and both came with a check valve.

Also one tip, pinch the line come out from the tank, that way you dont have all that gasoline to deal with when you disconnect the pump.

All should take less that an hour to do.

I read in you early post that your hatch release is not working , but the motor is. When I first got my '87 the complete plastic liner inside the receiver was dry rotted away and had a similar problem that you described. I didn't even realize it was missing because it was competely gone. See pic with white colored insert.

You can't but that insert separate so I just replaced the complete receiver unit and the hatch as worked perfect ever since.

Also see this thread! https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/447684-lower-hatch-receiver-cup.html
