No offense Ryan, but that description would turn me off big time.

It's far too long and contains far too much crap.

If I'm shelling out $26k I don't need you to tell me how rare it is, what size engine or how many horsepower it has. Either someone has done some research before looking at your advert, or has enough money they don't care. Get rid of all the bull****.

Don't include stuff like "countless hours" and "everything works". I don't care, as a buyer, whether you slaved like a bitch or not. And for $26,000 I'd expect everything to work. Non working things should be listed in an ebay advert. Get your bills out and add them up. That's what gives me a warm feeling inside as a buyer because it makes it less likely I have to pay that money.

Add some headings such as
- specification
- work done
- extras/upgrades
- overall evaluation i.e. overall condition
- areas for improvement

Take the subheadings and either add bullet points (SHORT) or one four/five line paragraph for each. Expect that a serious buyer will email or ring you asking for more detail. That way your reply can be tailored to them.

On that note, sit down for an hour and think how you are going to reply to questions. A bit of preparation can lead to a much better performance on your part, putting the car in the best light.

Good luck with the sale.

I bought my 928 off ebay btw.

This one owner 91 GT with 42k miles sold for $22,600 (really bad ad)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...064436259&rd=1

BrainG from here will takte $18.5 (maybe less) for his 89 GT with 120k

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-...QQcmdZViewItem

IMHO you will need to price it at $21k if you want to sell it within a month. Even less if more banks fail or the Dow has another major drop.

Ryan,

Yea, your failure was clearly not track related.

I appreciate your thought on the 5spd transmission and all, but that is not the issue...I think if anything it is the shorter rear end on the '90/'91 GT's that cause the motor to more easily be driven at or to redline in corners on a regular basis. I have NOT seen 87-89 S4 5spd cars have the same level of track failure as I have the 90/91 GT's...that was why I was asking.

There is a preponderance of 90/91 GT track failures out there and to this point as far as I know it is all just speculation as to why that is... No one that I know of has been able to document the difference between the 5spd S4's from 87-89 and the 90/91 GT's...well, other than the already noted rear end ratio difference.

Good luck w/ your sale!

I'm not sure I would agree with this. If a good effort is made to properly advertise these cars they will definitely command a higher price. It's hard to tell from the pics what kind of condition that GT was in. At that price someone either stole it or just bought themselves a money pit. Not enough info which equals lower price.

Two bids on a 91 GT with 42K miles being sold by the original owner is pathetic. rgg2006 from Fargo, ND appears to have gotten a nice deal.

Ryan, when you say full leather it seems to mean a lot more than just what was standard, ie seats, ac console, cassette case and door inserts. In addition to my car (see pics), mrmerlins 88 s4, as well as tom Sellecks s4 (search threads by his name for pics), the oak green car (which I have seen and it puts my leather to shame), there are enough 87 and later examples to make the rennlist regulars doubt "full leather" is accurate. I think you need to have dash, pod, a pillars, roofliner, rear quarters and full door panels to call out something like that.

I do want to congratulate you on your thread and its brutal honesty about condition and pricing. I think if I was starting over and shopping a 928, I would seriously consider buying your car as it would be cheaper than going the route I went, and what many others will do if they buy a 10-15k car with just a few problems (ha!)

Good luck

Steve

Very nice car Steve. Looks great.

You are right, if you desire a 928 in the class/category you are discussing the $$$ add up in a hurry.

My old '89 had leather door panels, rear panels, rear a/c cover, rear hatch and possibly more. I always referred to this as "PARTIAL LEATHER".
Just my opinion, I do not like re-dyed seats at all, as they are stiffer and it is harder to get conditioner to be absorbed into the leather. I am sure re-dye jobs vary in results.

My opinion of how an ad for this car should go is this: just use lots of pictures and say that there has been a complete maintenance cycle done so that the car will be trouble free for the next owner. Too much info would send me running for any other less molested car, even if there may be more maintenance involved.
It's like a first date with too much information, you know how that goes...no second date.

P.S. no offense to anyone, but I think Boxsters are quite gay. I do think they are excellent cars, but still look better on a chick.
