I have a rotted foam piece by the passenger side like yours.
The 2 front pieces before the radiator were all rotted out.

Not sure what the short piece by the cross-brace does.
Believe the 2 front ones were to keep the intake car from leaking out past the hood and keep maximum flow through the radiator.

Functionality wise, can't figure out what the 2 rear short pieces does.
And you know the Porsche engineers don't do anything for fun or looks.

I still have the 2 front rotted out pieces. Don't know why.
Think someone mentioned they found some foam from Home Depot to recover the rotted out piece.
Let me know if you want the 2 dead foam pieces.

I like the tubular rubber. Seems more substantial.
Did Porsche do a running foam to tubular rubber hood seal upgrade in the 90's?

The foam is to keep water off the jump post and harness there.

gotta love post #245. In 81 I painted my 66 cal look bug Triumph Pageant Blue, (my first car). I had the exact Concord Stereo in it!

Thanks for the memories/flashback to my High School Days.

All I can say is "Wow!" It's been a long time since I've seen a 928 in a showroom (20 years in fact), this was just like that-- the car is immaculate.

First an introduction to Kie's spotless shop:

We then moved it outside for better light:

The paint is perfect!

The interior is also perfect, lots of leather!

Everything looks brand-new, there are lots more engine pic's in the gallery.

The there are lots more pictures here: http://juanderer.smugmug.com/gallery/5402983_LHuUA
There are 8 pages of thumbnails, click on any of them to see a larger version (or use the Prev/Next links). Then click on that lerger photo to see it in the largest size that fits your browser, or move your mouse over it and get a pop-up with choices for various picture sizes, along with a "Save Photo" button to download the original (around 5 MB). You can also order prints through SmugMug, in our testing they've done the best job of any of the online shops- and much better than the local quick-print outfit.

(We've been very pleased with SmugMug. If anyone wants to set up their own account then you can use our referral code -- iARtSs8liIdp2 -- for $5 off the annual fee).

Thanks, Kie, for the opportunity to share this!

Cheers, Jim

Love the color! Never saw a 928 in that color before.

I can buy that. So what's on the other side of the engine bay that needs protecting from a little moisture?

See the red flyer in the middle, or go to page 7 of the threat.

The other piece of foam is there to keep the car balanced.

You didn't have any Nakamichi speakers to go with the Concord head unit and A/D/S amps, Schocki?
Don't know why I sold my old Nak speakers. Could have used them in the 928.

actually the foam/WX strips are there for ..........the smaller pieces to keep water off of the coil on the DS. and the PS is to keep the hot post cover dry with their wires ,
the front strips are for sealing off the top of the air inlet to the bottom of the hood, so more air goes through the radiator

Yep, thanks Schocki. Its the tried and true Ungo Box TL-1450 alarm/theft deterrent system that was installed by the Porsche dealer before the car was put on the showroom floor. It has little dials that you turn if you want to change the security code. Still works fine and it is part of the history of this car so I left it as is. The pushpin trigger under the hood was installed with a little bracket to an existing nut/bolt (driver side of the strut brace rod) so one could remove it if they didn't like it. Check out the pic at the bottom as I brace myself for an earthquake.

Here is a pic of the invoice from the install shop billing the Porsche dealer back in the day. Someone 26 years ago very carefully trimmed away the prices from the invoice to keep our dentist in the dark and sheltered from the atrocities otherwise known as "dealer markup"!

I had the pleasure of meeting Kie and seeing the car yesterday. To me, the car looks pretty much like a brand new 928 in every way. What a cool find!

Might I add that the car has a perfect factory PERIOD leather dash and centre console!!!!! I have never seen those in perfect shape before. It was cool to see where things actually belong. Like the foam and rubber hold-strap for the jack.
