you could hear the solid lifters, the roar of an unrestricted 800cfm holly on top that shook the car at idle, and the smell of raw fuel watered your eyes. it was friggin awesome.

Rob,
Way to go! Keep the 928's on track and showing the way! I love it!
Had an interesting experience at our Concours event this past weekend (other than being ROBBED the overall w/ Blue82 it was a good event). A guy and his wife and mother in law come up and are looking at Blue82 and my '94 GTS (Grand Prix white) and we have a REALLY nice conversation about 928's. The guy (quite young...mid 20's at most) is saying how he LOVES the shape of the 928's, yada, yada, yada.
Would LOVE to have a GTS, knows they are super cars and were really expensive and I set him straight and tell him to look me up if he gets serious because I can find him a car through all my 928 contacts.
Well, at the end of the day I see him leaving... He was the 2nd place finisher in the new 911 class and he is driving a speed yellow 996 GT3!!! HOLY CRAP! Certainly the first time I have ever had a GT3 owner pouring over my 928's and looking to add one to the garage!
Maybe we are FINALLY starting to gain a little respect!

wow, that sounds like a fun weekend for sure!
my wife called me to tell me she saw another 928... I thought she was finally coming around. then she said it was under it's own power and not on a trailer and laughed because it was noteworthy. oh well.
the 928 does seem to always attract it's share of attention. as long as it's not getting a ticket or a mechanic is scratching his head again it's usually a good thing
I suspect 928's are rare enough that they'll always have a unique appeal. I'm always surprised to see how many are surprised to find out dr p actually put a V8 into anything that didn't have 4 doors and weigh 5500lbs.
course, most americans are so in love w/the V8 that anything w/a V8 is instantly revered and even the most ardent american iron fan starts to bond at some metaphysical level when they hear it fire up. or maybe it's the fumes... hahaha

But that sounds like a DE, and that is a great feeling. Particularly the last session on Sunday afternoon when you feel like you've really mastered the track and you're the king. (unless your Justin, then you'd be the queen )

We ran another round of the Targa Palomar Saturday. 31 cars, about 1/2 of them M5's. The rest quite a mix: 993 Ruf TT, Ruf Cayenne, CGT, Bentley Continental, two big AMG's Skyline GTR, Audi, Lotus, various 993's, 997 Turbo, Cayman and of course, lil' ol' Ruby. There were a couple of photogs setup on the way up-both came up to me and said Ruby sounded the best of all the cars running up the hill, including the 10 cyls in the CGT! There were a couple of Chrysler SRT8's (remember Loaded's bragging?), on the back side coming down, it was a little misty (running on R's, not a good mix on wet roads), so I took it easy the first 1/2. Then, as we got a little further down, I started pushing one of the Chryslers. After about 5 miles, I could literally smell burning brakes and his brakelights were on constantly as he pumped them....just no comparison!

wish I'd mastered it... even w/3 hrs of practice sessions it's more like a 3500lb wolf chasing cats down a little trail lined w/penalty cones. I was still 6 sec behind the leader! (110.8sec vs my 117.4sec vs 118-123sec for the vettes/midpackers vs 138sec for the Z28).
but payback time is coming. willow is a big, open, power hungry track w/a 100' elevation built in that'll let the big dog off the leash. here kitty, kitty, kitty hehehe
ps
nice selection of cars to chose from ed!! SD has some nice cruising roads for sure. used to do a lot of cycling down there. was awesome for riding.

Anyone have the movie Le Mans w/Steve McQueen? How do you like it? I've really been enjoying the American LeMans races. This is a pretty good clip from the movie.

My wife is helping me with a "shock" install.
Had to bring this thread to the front and share. I can move this to OT if need be.
Here is a series of text messages with my wife today:
Me: Will you help me install a front shock tonight?
Wife: Sure
Me: I forgot to mention that you will have to be naked.
Wife: Exactly where do u think u r installing that front shock?
Me: In the rear end of course.
Wife: lol. u wuld have a better chance installing it in the front.
Me: It takes longer in the front.
Wife: i've seen ur shock. knowing my limits when sober u can only do a front install.
Shark shock party at my house tonight. Nobody is invited, however.

Doing a front installation in the rear, I've never been able to get the nuts to line up. The long bolt might be bent though. Heat and lubrication an option?
