I don't know, as I didn't ship it.
If not my track car project is over.

If you didn't receive the item you paid for, you should receive your money back. Contact the seller ASAP, and start hunting for another gearbox

No, seller is a fellow rennlister and he shipped the gearbox to my mechanics shop.
So I am not worried about that, but it looks like my long awaited tranny fell of the truck.
I can just imagine how the UPS driver / Ace Ventura look alike kicked my beloved tranny of the truck, since he was too lazy to lift it.
I just heard it is insured, but in any case, this really really sucks. 5 speed LSD trannies are not that easy to come by...

I am sure I will find out tomorrow what actually happened.

Well, I am the fellow he bought it off of, and yes UPS can and does ship items this heavy.

I made a custom wooden pallet for it and had it blocked up and padded well too. It would have taken a serious drop for it to have damaged the tranny. I sent Sab the pics before I sent it so he knows that it was packaged well.

I will be contacting UPS in the morning as they arent open at this time.

And yes the package was DEFINETLY insured. So we will be covered for the item.

This seriously sucks Sab.

Or it was incorrectly packed......

But it appears Colin sent it to you so I would have to believe (or definately hope) that it was packaged properly. This i don't doubt.

That being said, often times people dont package things properly and put very heavy items in simple cardboard boxes. I had a situation like this just the other day. Something I got felt like it was all about to fall out the bottom side of the box. I am lucky it got to me when it did, had it been loaded and off loaded a couple more times it may have not made it to me.

Good luck with the claim. Hopefully they can return something of value back to you, maybe the case is the only thing broken, who knows, but i am sure something can be salvaged from it.

Make sure that you get the carcass back to scavenge the lsd out of it..or perhaps use the internals in your case....and pocket the difference...(or upgrade certain internal parts)... The shippers track records are really poor lately...I guess everyone should way over insure every thing you ship..just to let the shipper know you really want the part..

I am hoping for the best.

We shipped a large item on a pallet once, took pics and all. When it arrived, damaged, there was no pallet and they did not cover the insurance due to improper packing. Still fighting that one. Same thing happened to a wing we sold, built a special crate for it and it arrived bare and damaged. Good luck!

It'll be interesting to hear their story of how it was damaged. I doubt UPS will admit that it fell off the truck, if that's what actually happened. Don't be suprised if they say that the fact that it was damaged was proof that it wasn't packaged properly.

Hope this all works out for you.

Maybe it isn't damaged at all.

Unless UPS uses bulldozers to move packages around, I can't see how they could have broken a damn transmission. It's probably just a tore up box, or broken pallet.

Remember, the glass is always half full.

That does look ok, although if i know those straps i could see them being loosened very easily, even by mistake. Although if they are covered under a box i dont understand how you could do that.

That being said, I spend about 6 hours packing up my old GT engine and put it on a plastic pallet, strapped it down with blocks and 2 or 3 similiar straps. Then shrink wrapped the whole thing and when it arrived one of the exhaust cams was damaged. Couldn't tell you how that happened, negligence on the carriers part no doubt, but what are you going to do?

Seems most of these heavy items end up getting to places in worse condition then when they were sent, and i guess you can never spend too much time preparing an item for shipment. Even when making a custom pallet or box for an item, some joker somewhere seems to be able to find a way to damage it.
