All the freight companies charge big time extra for unloading heavy items. We ship 100 lbs printers all the time and it is $150 for no loading dock and $150 for inside delivery.
So if the customer declines these two charges, he has to basically come out to the truck and unload it himself.
Which I would have gladly unloaded the tranny myself.

Freight delivery companies charge $50.00 if they use the lift gate on the back of the truck. They often ask the recipient "You want me to use the lift gate? " and then CHARGE the extra $50.00 on OUR bill !!!! Which we then charge the customer....IF they told people it was $50.00 for the lift gate THAT might be fair but that is NOT how it is done most of the time.

Something is wrong!
I think it is some sort of UPS mixup.
UPS just called me and asked why I refused the shipment that it looks OK.
No one here ever saw it...?
Call came from an unknown number and I am still left in the dark.

Oh and the lady told me the "engine" looks alright and apparently told Colin something about "performance parts".

I think this is simply a big UPS screw up. My gearbox probably sits at some other shop in the area and they have no idea what to do with it.

Thanks H, I know. I am hoping it was just a screw up and the gearbox resurfaces undamaged.
If not I am sure the claim gets paid and that's it...

Sab,

I would take the tracking number and call 800-pick-ups to check the status. It is a computer but often if something is messed up they will put a real person on the line. You definitely need to know where it's at and when you will receive it.

Forgot to mention. When/if they deliver it, don't sign for it until it is unwrapped and inspected top to bottom. Have a digital camera ready in case there is any damage.

Get a picture of any damage with the UPS person in the pic and name of the delivery guy.
Not blaming the delivery person but having a paper trail and witness may be helpful.

May it all turn out all right.

Just found out the regular driver for this route was on vacation. They can't tell me who was driving...

As Sab is stating, they seem to have NO idea what is going on, where things are, and trust me I will not accept the package until it is opened and I will have pics of it with the UPS driver.
The guy who delivers in the area is a nice enough fellow, but I doubt he will EVER come to my door again after this.

If the tranny is repairable (which I believe it will be) I will be using a damn freight company next time.
Anyone know one that is reliable??

The problem with picking one freight line is they don't always sevice all areas. If they have to interline and something is lost or damaged, each carrier points the finger at the other and nothing gets done. I will typically use 4 or 5 frt lines depending upon which areas are served. There are a couple that service all of North America and give great discounts but I have had problems with damage. Specifically Conway frt and Fedex frt lines.

I had all sorts of trouble finding someone to ship my old tranny back to 928 International. They all wanted me to haul the tranny to them rather than pick it up. I eventually called 928 International, and their carrier that dropped off the new tranny came back to retrieve the old one. I don't recall who they were...maybe give Jim a call to find out.
