Gotcha - I just saw that he had listed a top speed of 85 mph, which now that I think about it seems really low for third anyway. I just remember 2 to 4 is basically what the Tesla's used (they called it Lo and Hi though).

Yea, but the Lotus/Tesla box probably has a MUCH shorter 4th...I am guessing they were comparing it to a 4th gear in the Elise...that would probably be about like our 3rd.

Just in case you come back to update your thread, since it bounced to the top again. I noticed that you kept only 2nd and 3rd gears. Is there any particular reason you opted not to do 2nd and 4th? With the torque out of the electric motor, I'd think that'd give you your best speed, cruise power and top end. Consecutive gears are usually overlapped quite a bit.
Just curious!

It goes back to the fact that it is power curve that matters, not just the motor torque profile. so, with 2-4th spread, it would be as effective as if you used it on our cars. (bad) additionally, with an electric motor, they are efficient enough at higher motor speeds, so 3rd gear at 110mph, is not a bad top speed and can cruise there for long periods, and would get there quicker in 3rd gear, rather than 4th. (not like a gas engine that at high rpm, wouldnt be as power efficient for mileage efficiency)
Thanks for answering all the questions in my absence

I don't think this is the exact car that I saw a while back but it is very close.
