Hmm....40% front 60% rear......thats actually BETTER than a standard 928's balance (my thoughts anyway).....
It looks like you are using lead acid car batteries......which work well but are VERY heavy.....have you considered something a bit more hi-tech..... doesn't the Tesla roadster use Nimh or Li-ion batteries....granted they are STUPID expensive...but should increase the range and power quite a bit....I think the 200ish HP tesla has a range of over 200miles? I think it has Li-ion laptop batteries...a WHOLE bunch of them.....couple thousand I think.....

Very cool project. Looks like a lot of fun, albeit expensive.
On his project page, he lists the following:
Whatt hours/Mile: 235 Wh/Mile
Based on the average retail price of electricity in the state of California for 2006, it cost about $0.13 per kilowatt hour ($0.08 in Michigan )
So it would reason that it costs about $0.03 per mile. (0.13/1000*235 = 0.03)
Maybe a better relationship is let's say a 928 gets 20 miles per gallon. At $3.00 per gallon (I know this changes from day to day) it costs roughly $0.33 per mile.
Considering the 23 gallon capacity of a 928, you can travel 460 miles on a tank of gas for about $69.00. For the same amount of money, you could travel 2,300 miles in California, or travel the same 460 miles for about $13.80. If it were Michigan, you could trave 3,670 miles on $69, or a 23 gallon "tank" equivalent would only cost $8.65.
For argument's sake, let also assume that the conversion costs... $7,000 not including the cool paint job (this is a total guess on my part). It would take roughly 23,000 miles to break even. 33,000 miles if it cost $10k. (If you live in California.)
Very cool!

Very good calculations. Right around .03 mile is a good estimate. My conversion before paint, cost right around 12,500.
When you start talking pay back time. Isnt it nice to drive a vehicale that this is even possible Whats the payback for leather seats, power windows or superchargers.
The nice thing about California, I can buy off peek power during the night for only .05 cents per killowatt hoour which lowers my operating costs even more.
My old hobby of roadracing motorcycles probably cost me 10,000 a season.
My new hobby pays me back everytime I drive it . How cool is that !
Did I mention I drive this car every day

Your current (pun intended) battery pack 26 Hawkers is what $5,000-6,000 and lasts how long ? I should think that the cost of batteries needs to be expensed over the normal useful life to get a more accurate cost per mile given the relatively short life of most batteries. But a fun exercise none the less now if you had a small trailer with a portable generator ...

I payed right around $3700 with the quanity discount for the 26 batteres. Yes you do have to consider their cost in the same way you need to concider the cost of tuneups, oil changes, timming belt replacements, smog checks and the many other engine related maintancefor costs, that EVs dont require. But people seem to forget this.
I already get picked on for my wheel skirts, imagine me pulling a trailer with my Porsche
