PCA Club Racing GT rule change-928
#46
A lightweight NA 4.5L could be good. It would have to be very light to be competitive - as I said - otherwise to get more power - better yet - a 5L 2V - allows a GT4 at 3200 pounds.
Its cheaper racing (not that those go together) with the 2V cars, though to get good power out of the 2V you do need major headwork and cam.
And I love how we aren't even IN the alphabet classes.

Well, even if I lose weight, I am still going to be 240 or so. Maybe 230. Thats a 2500 pound car. Anderson isn't even that light.

guess I missed this one - was doing the 1st PCA AX of the season in SD over the weekend...
they moved me into II class and dropped the modded 928 class. Now I'm against real track cars, totally stripped, full aero kits, R tires, roll cages, hot rodded motors putting out 300rwhp or more, etc... seemed kinda odd given I'm 1500 lbs more than them, and my car passes smog, has DOT's, dual AC and all the creature comforts a normal car has. there was a 12 sec track difference in our times, and they were the fastest group (around 84sec) on the track (only behind a track built Z06 w/hoosiers and a pit crew at 82sec)...
strange thing is, if I lose any more wt, change to R tires, etc like them, then I'll be in yet another class, and not w/my current gang of shredders.. hmmmm...
class changes? seems like it'll be a fun topic at the next board meeting for sure. IMO, if this is how they are gonna treat Uboats, then SCCA might be kinda appealing if they are any different - or just buy a friggin 911 and join the german corvair party.

My thoughts exactly Rob. Its weird how they continue to dis-associate.

I think part of it is that there simply are not enough of us out there to justify our own division/class, so we get tossed into whatever they think might be close. but we're as unique on the track as we look, so it's difficult to get a good fit.
maybe there is a light truck series we can race in, hahaha... just take our hatches off and presto! instant pickup!

It doesnt really matter.
Both a GT3 and GT4 can run as fast as anderson has run at Laguna Seca
http://www.pca.org/clubrace/2004_res...guna/race1.htm
GT4 Gary Boss. He is REAL fast!
lightweight, and good hp/weight. thats what racing is all about. (and being able to run 7 seasons in a row with the same engine )
I think the real answer to this class question is the 2 valve 6.5 liter . can that slip through to GT3? probably not . oh well, there is always fair, SCCA ITE!

Ok, this is it.
you want to be competitive in PCA. You run in GT3. you build a stroker, no bore, just stroke, 6.0 liter.
(or some mix to get 6 liter)
Then, at 2950 all read to race weight (where i am now and that isnt too bad) you are at the top of the limit of the rules for a GT3, at 550pts. caveat, you have to build it out of the part euro 2 valve 5 liter hybrids.
Otherwise, be happy to run a 5 liter in GT3 or run with anderson and the big dogs in GT2 with the 6.5 liter

First things first. We must first find an 8 valve 928 to enter (according to the chart on pca.org).
So now someone has to be wealthy/crazy enough to build a 9000 rpm 5.0L 16V motor so they can go smoke people in GT4.

Oh I'm with you Dennis, I understand your 8v/16v comment. Even so, If you are talking about a 16v motor (as opposed to a 32v) with a 5L bottom end, you're still at a minimum weight of 3042, sounds heavy to me but maybe not in application. How much HP would it take to equalize at 3000lb car with the rest of the field, does the 9K rpm motor get you there?
#59
3042 is a 2700 pound car dry with no 240 pound driver in it.

dennis, can you fix the chart and add a 16 valve 6 liter? i think at a reasonable weight , you could still fit one in GT3, No?
anything else is going to be a bust, except the traditional 6.5 32v in GT2.
