Thanks for all the input.

I'll be speaking with the shop owner this week.

I think i may speak for alot of people when i say this, but i'm unwilling to spend more on a paint job than the car is worth, no matter how much i love my car. (I do) I also like to drive my car. A concours paint job would be a complete waste of money for me. I would be a nervous wreck worring about dings, scratches and rock chips. I think anyone who has seen my car would agree that $4000 buys a pretty decent paint job. The other 6k i can use to make my car go faster and handle better. I went recently to a German/Euro body/paint shop in Jessup, MD that was recommended by many owners of Boxters and late model 911's in Jessup, MD. They quoted me $900 (US) just to fix a rust spot the size of a dime on the rear quarter window. I also asked about painting the car back to the origninal Copper Brown Metallic and he said $10k (US) just to spray, no prep. I have no doubt that they do excellent work and there operation is very professional and clean. I think i like my car just the way it is and 10k will get me a nice down payment on a 2nd hand Boxster.

John, I agree about a "concours" paint job. I drive my kids to school, park in many parking lots including Walmart. The point of owning this car is to make it a (almost) daily driver. I may choose a spot farther fomr the store's entrance with new paint, but I expect a few dings now and then. It has to be a compromise.
