Default Titanium rear pins

See attached photo. Just had these made up instead of the standard ones which often rust, saved 0.8kg in unsprung weight, but expensive to engineer

Nick, because I started out with a 2inch thick titanium bar, the engineering time to cut the titanium including the thread was something like 10 hrs, as you can't cut it quickly. The rod itself I picked up 'cheaply' for about US$250, it was top grade military spec with a normal retail price of over US$4000 (and it had been X-rayed)! If you can start off with a much thinner bar nearer to the original size, the price would come down substantially, but its important to get the top grade titanium for suspension use.

How will you be dealing with the galling attributes of Ti? Its twisted over every bump.

Very, very trick! Be careful, though, because you're starting down a slippery slope!

Brendan, I could have them anodised/coated, but with just regularly greasing them, they should be fine. I already have greased titanium bolts on the lower front shock bolts with no signs of galling,. Also as it is for the race car, not so many bumps on the racetrack.

Very nice!

O.T. My wedding ring is Ti and was told to get the correct size because re sizing it is near impossible.

Sweet! I have an old titanium fastener from one of the old military helicopters that was retired. Got it when I worked at an aerospace parts distributor.

Its a freakin huge bolt that wieghs nothing.

I'll have to dig it out and see what I can use it for. Never occured to me before to use it for more then a giant paper wieght.

And back in its day, it sold for a small fortune.

so what did that cost? $500 for a total of 2lbs of unsprung weight? Its certianly very cool, if your doing that i cant imagine what other projects youve already done to the car.

adrian, that is very cool. it was great to see the green racer at the track as well - that is a fast car, and it looks good too! i forgot to mention how jealous i am that you have a set of heads with 968 valves already... you really ought to join us for a ring expedition, it is a lot of fun.

Hi Nick -Track day at Castle Coombe was great and I was pleased with how the green racer went in especially as it had the standard GT exhaust on to get me through the noise limit. Need to get the headers and 2.5 inch exhaust on as soon as I can. I planned to test the titanium pins, but they were only finished the same day.

Did you have your video camera on in the car when we did that last session? Would be interested to see how my car was handling.

And yes a Ring trip is definately on the list, keep us posted on possible dates.

Guys, I also shaved off 0.7kg by swapping to the earlier S4 pulley (smaller diameter) and fitting the Clubsport spacer instead of the aircon pulley - see photos below comparing the two.

Your avator looks great!

Do you have any pictures of your car? Also, what kind of 928 is it? What mods do you have?

you want to save 2lbs, just run a quart less gas when you go out.
or take a big pee!
Or, run the club sport alternator, its 2.5 lbs less weight and costs about $400 i imagine.
