Question 1/8 Mile times in a 928 ?

Hi All

I have a new Drag strip opening near me in the South of England on the 10th June and I will be running there to see what times I can get on the 1/8 mile.

Never run an 1/8 ,so anyone got any times for their 928s ??

I think I should run around a low 8...but not sure...

Anyone like to guess what I will run ????

All the best Brett

I never ran in the 8th either but to me the 1/4 is the real deal. There is just not enough distance to get a good race out of it. For slower cars the 8th is sufficient but anything tfaster than mid 14sec should do it on the 1/4.

hell, even the 1/4 mile is not a good representation of what the 928 was built for.

I've had a few want to do 1/4 mile runs with me and when I tell them i'd rather do a standing mile they change thier minds.

Unless you change some gears or get to that 1000hp mark, 1/8th mile is totally worthless to you.

1 mile !

If your 928 does an 8 second 1/8 it will be the fastest 928 i'm aware off......closer to 10 second 1/8 is more reasonable ....

Hi All

Good suggestion about dragtimes.com

Top 3 are...

8.37 @ 86 (Imre T.) dont think N/A but doesnt say...

8.6 @ 89 (Turbo)

8.8 @ 88 (Supercharged)

So...hopefully I will run an 8 ish

But even though I have more hp than all of those three.....as an 1/8 is about launch/traction and I dont have an LSD....we will see

All the best Brett

Brett
Even with widly different HP 928's all the 1/8 times are within a second or so....so clearly its all about the launch to get a good 1/8 time.... On my run I got DESTROYED off the line by a 5 speed 1999 M3....but by about 2/3rd track I caught and passed him....after he asked me "thats got a flat 6????" I said "uh no"

My car shifts 2nd to 3rd at 140kph (90mph). Perhaps you can alter the shifting pattern to save a shift and more importantly time.

What year's your car again?

Hi Brian

Just looked at your times, I see what you mean....all the top 9 times including yours are between 8.37 and 9.4 and 77 mph to 89 mph...

Well its pretty certain I will run somewhere in the 8s or 9s...but a 7 would be nice

All the best Brett

Mine is stock, but when you tell a drag car guy you want to go more than 1/4 mile, most times they will double think it. They are set up for exactly a 1/4 mile and redline at that. You insinuate you want 1/2 or more they know they won't top out anymore than if they ran in a 1/4.

Besides, the 928 has long legs and the gearing to make that so.
