Denmark I believe (or a neighboring country) has ridiculous tax laws. People save a bundle of money by paying for such conversions so they can register as a truck....

Those pickups are from Denmark yes, they save a LOT by doing that!
My car was imported to Norway in a similar way in 1984, but actually as a van! They removed the rear seats and installed plexiglass behind the rear seats to create a separate "cargo area". Of course, the government was quick to change the import tax rules, but in 1984 norwegians imported a LOT of 928s this way.
After 10 years, you can convert the car back to 4-seater with no cost, but I can still see marks in my car from the hasty conversion to become a Van back in 84...

Yep. Those crazy Danes.
The danish tax laws says something like :
An exsample:
Cost prise for a new car: = 20.000,-
Danish normal tax (25%) = 5.000,-
9% retail income = 2.250,-
Danish car import tax (180%) = 49.050,-
Total retail price = 76.300,-
Only as an exsample. There is a lot more to it than that.
On my 928 S4 i have to pay close to 25.000,- Dollars in import tax
In Germany, 100km away, i paid 7500 dollars for the car, so i am rally thinking of getting another 100km to work just to save the import tax.
Yes i know what you are thinking. Those numbers don't add up in calculation above! But the danish tax office use another calculation on a used car. Roughly it is: Danish market price x 0,64 = import tax.

BTW. Regarding the 928 pickup. There was made 8 or 9 of those in Denmark.
The danish tax laws has a maximum tax price on a pickup. The max is close to 7900 dollars. There was also made 20 - 25 of the 1998 model of the Chervolet camaro. This was registered as a "closed" pickup without backseats. Now there tax laws has been changed so the closed compartment must have some minimum specific measurements, so the camaro and the 928 is to small.
Another exsample is the Hummer H2.
A new one cost close to 168.000,- Dollars. But if you remove the backseats and make it a "van" it is 58.000,- dollars.
If you dont understand my english and what to know more, feel free to add a comment.
