That gearbox that Mark Anderson has that I need to take apart to check out looks pretty stinking new from the outside. I'm going to take it apart and inspect it next week.....

I have not been able to determine the part number for the rubber grommets that help locate the wiring harnesses under the rear floor pan of my 1988 928.
There are several above the rear sub-frame. The stock ones have crumbled away. The tranny shop used tie wraps. Pic attached. Anyone have any for sale of know the part number? Thanks in advance. I have been silent lately but I am still working on this project / debacle, ordering up parts etc.

Erkka is probably right.
I pondered over some 82 and 88 PET parts PDF files this morning. The grommets that appear in the attached pic "look" like the ones I am after but when I looked at the harnesses on my car ..... they do not appear to have grommets. The harness that plugs into the circular connector .... which plugs into the brake warning harness and the speed sensor harness .... is the harness that has the mounting grommets on it .... One grommet mounts behind each rear backing plate and then there are a few grommets above the corss member for the rear suspension. I ordered some misc. part numbers today from Pelican. They have a great web site and good tech support. We shall see if I get lucky with any of the numbers ....

Did not mean to leave everyone hanging.
Mom is rather ill and I have been spending alot of time researching her health and medical records. I could go on about what I have found there but will save that for another thread.
Mark, thanks, ... my supplier finally got the bearing in.
I hope to get started back on the 88 928 project this week sometime.
Thanks again everyone for all your help.

I have all the parts I need for the rebuild but project is on hold for a few more weeks while I fly to Seattle to drive back a 1974 Mazda Rotary Engine Pickup that I bought with only 10,000 miles on it ... automatic transmission and NO rust. A friend from the Air Force will be driving back with me ..... ROAD TRIP.
Seattle to Fort Lauderdale, FL ... should be interestin. Hopefully mom will be ok while I am gone and when I get back I might have to build another small garage for this museum piece. After I get settled back in I hope to finish this 928 project and give you all my final conclusions and findings.
Sorry for the delay gang @!

Bruce:
Any updates on A) the '88 tranny rebuild? B) The x-country in the Mazda rotary truck? C) Your mom ok? I'm diving into my TT next week and have learned a great deal from your thread. Not too many posts around here on the 'gotcha's' of 5-speed drivetrain R&R's.

Hey gents / ladies ? ...
Sorry this has really dragged out.
You asked ...

a) in the garage and having trouble getting back on it
b) ? I have two 74 REPU trucks. What is the question ?
c) Mom is stable but I feel that the status quo doctors are overmedicating her (16 different meds and NOW they say she is diabetic (long story). I feel that I have failed in educating them about alternative medicine and what foods to avoid etc.
Additionally I wasted more than one year fighting the local Fort Lauderdale Code *****.
http://weblogs.sun-entinel.com/news/..._city_hal.html
I am considering suing Broward County to overturn the insane law that they passed in 1972 forcing all cities in Broward to add hydrofluosilicic acid to the drinking water supply chain. Hydrofluosilicic acid is a poisonous industrial waste byproduct (fluoride) of the nuclear, coal, aluminum and fertilizerindustries. This is one of the largest propaganda brainsmears of this century. It is NOT good for your teeth. For more on this see http://www.fluoridealert.org/
Now that the USA has degraded into a fascist state I find myself in Ron Paul / Ralph Nader mode much of the time.
Fortunately my customer has other cars to drive while I sort out all these emergencies. It is still a pitiful situation all around. I see a continual slide into slavery of most everyone who is blue collar in the USA and don't see it getting better .... ever.
Hope I am wrong.
Will update this .... when I get a chance to get back underneath the car.
Till then ...
Keep up the good fight.

Welcome back Zorro:
Take care of Mom and pick your battles. There's no more truth to the fluoride scare than there is to global warming scam.
I got laid off and lost half my retirement savings in the last 2 years, but I'm not all that pessimistic about the future. At least I had something to lose.
Anyway, glad to hear from you again. Keep on truckin' as we used to say in the 60's.
