This is sure a mystery.

There is nothing wrong with idling to warm up, I do it every time i drive. Charley is right about certain procedures.

That oil is goofy looking. Maybe froth from too much getting wipped up? I would drain the oil again and see how much volume comes out? Look into the coolant resevoir to see any oil floating in the coolant. Was the oil normal when it was poured in?

If it ends up being the gasket(s) then pulling the engine ain't so bad, just tedious and offers a chance to clean everything. I never pour any oil into the filter on a change.

I whip my oil pretty good all the time and it doesn't get milky. This is water/coolant in the oil. If there is no oil cooler in the radiator then it's the head gasket or block.

Wouldn't there be an exchange and see some oil floating in the expansion tank? That would be the easy confirmation.

Sometimes, with the pressure from closed cooling system it usually only goes one way. I just hope it not a HG. Steve has only had the car for a month and it has been sitting.

The only time I have seen an oil cooler leak inside the radiator in a 928, there was oil in the coolant but not vice versa.

Is there any way overfilling the oil could result in co-mingling the fluids?

If this wasn't such a bummer for steve I might have posted a pic of devo.

I once looked at my oil on the dipstick with the engine running and it looked different. Learning all the time.

My thinking was based on the fact that I had made the silly assumption that Steve had been driving the car prior to this oil change. If it has been sitting since he bought it, this doesn't look good. However... I would think that some coolant would have come out of the sump (first) prior to the oil when he drained it. He made no mention of the oil being emulsified, just that it was very dirty, and no mention of seeing any coolant come out of the sump. Jim B. may be correct about the condensation if the car has been sitting for a long time. I'm still not sold on the HG's being bad... yet.

Nine qts is not an overfill. All I have seen occur from overfilling is blown seals. Happened on a VW bus and Mercedes 6.9, both times overfilled by over 25% by a shop. Both times blowing out seals, resulting in oil leaks. The repair on the Mercedes was MANY $k.

No, and he did not overfill the oil.

Unfortunately no. Over the years I have seen many vehicles that were overfull from customers doing their own oil change. As much as 5 to 6 qts. sometimes. Car would smoke like crazy. After a drain and refill to proper level the smoke would eventually stop with no adverse side effects.

White sludge from condensation is one thing. This looks far worse than that, and I think Zeus+ has already said so.

Plus juvius reported that the "oil" level is now rising rapidly.

I am just hoping it is not what it looks like. This close to X-MAS is a bummer. It is what it is. Maybe Steve will come back with good news.
