Got juvius on phone right now he is going to double check coolant hose in breather as 123 has suggested. He also said the vacuum hose to modulator was diconnected. It could now be sucking in trans fluid if it is ruptured.

while talking to ZEUS+ on the phone, we pretty much came up to the conclusion that it's a headgasket, but not totally ruling out other possibilities (so i'll check any suggestions). i guess i'm going to be taking the winter to work on it. Any help finding the cheapest prices would be greatly appreciated...

thanks for all your help,
steve

Wow! A lot of drama in sucha little time. Sure looks like a head gasket failure. The good news is that you should be able to do it with the engine in place.

IIRC, it's the second blown head gasket in a couple of months in the forum. Both idleing in a "warming up" cycle. I don't remember the other thread title nor the fellow's name.

Perhaps the lesson is don't warm your car up standing still unless you're absolutely sure your radiator flaps are forced open and your fan is 100% go? I know of some bikes without fan that hit max temp idleing, though at speed temp is perfect, even under very spirited driving conditions.

just wondering for my own info. If he doesnt get the job done soon, will the water in the oil ruin the rest of the engine or at least the bearings, ball or other?

FYI... the cooling flaps did not start until 87 IIRC. I know the 81's did not have them.
