Are 928 Top End Speeds Getting Faster?

The reason I ask is that w/chips, RMBs, and forced induction engines starting to crop up, it would make sense that the top end speeds would also potentially increase.
I know that, on the Spokane Raceway, in my '85S 32V, I come out of the turn just before the 1/4 mile straight at about 90mph and go like heck in 4th trying to wrap it out. I once got up to a max of 147mph in 4th gear (when everything fell into place) but when I shifted into 5th, it was like hitting a wall...and the car just started creeping past 147mph..then I ran out of space before hitting top end, brake, downshift and wonder what happened. I'm thinking that, if I had more horses under the hood (a al twin screw or something) I'd be able to punch through the wind resistence with more authority..and speed. Otherwise, to hit my top end in 5th (cruising) gear, I'm thinking it would take a pretty long stretch of road!
Hence, my question...shouldn't today's hotted up cars be able to break a few records on the salt flats or one of the Nevada open highway runs? As compared with the old stockers?
What is the official high end 928 speed record? Has it not changed since the famous and historic run of a long time ago?
Interestingly, I've not been able to replicate my 147mph best on the Spokane Raceway straight...and nothing changed excect the weather/temperature...that I know of. Also, I don't know for sure how accurate my speedo is. In any case, from 90mph to 140mph it gets there real fast! That's the speed that the 928 really struts her stuff.

BTW, someone ought to buy Don Hansen's newly refreshed monster engine 928 and take it a spin on the salt. I don't think it's sold yet. $50K includes racing trailer and all kinds of goodies.

Without any mods other than a modest Murph kit (438 RWHP) and a cat-back exhaust, George Suennen has been clocked at 190 MPH at 5000 feet altitude. This is an automatic with a 2.54 rear end and a passenger onboard. The car wouldn't do more than 165 before the Murph kit. I'd say the Murph kit is working pretty well.

At this years Pony Express ORR, I could only manage 155mph. (Speedo indicated 160mph, but the official speed trap had me at 155mph.) Keep in mind this was at about 6000ft elevation, 2.20 rear end, 292rwhp, stock ride height. Talk about hitting a wall......
Bill Ball and George Suennen could get to 165mph before adding superchargers, but have higher final drive ratios. Now they can go much faster...George made it to 194mph I believe. New transmission with 2.20 final drive might get him over 200mph. Tim and Cheryl should bust 200mph, maybe next summer (with ex-White Car engine in the Beast).

So the fastest 928 on record is the holbert car. 172mph at Bonneville and 180 at nardo. any 928s record any faster times? (928 meaning a porsche 928 with a 928 stock engine)
I think the Holbert 928 could run run 185!
If we start looking at 928s with modified engines, that YouTube 928 video comes to mind. i think it was 250mph in a quarter mile or something!

Around 125 mph driving becomes a lot more like riding, you don't so much control the car as make suggestions about where you want it to go.

It’s too bad the 20th anniversary of Al Holbert setting the record at Bonneville has come and gone without something to mark the date. It would have made a great venue for a 928 gathering- or pilgrimage. (No pun intended)
Mark have you ever thought of bringing the old girl back to the flats?

With my speedometer pegged, I really don'tt feel like I am "riding" anywhere. I am rather seriously attentive and consciously directing the machine. Believe that. Especially when I come upon another car. The 928 sits down around 125, and settles in but still doesn't drive itself. And then there are the birds that jump up from the roadway and slam into the windshield.......!!

Actually 125 doesn't feel much different than 80 in a well sorted 928 and many other cars. Now, I once had a '90 5.0 Mustang that sounded and felt like it was gonna leave the rearend behind at 125.
