This is a tiny issue in the big picture -- absolutely respect their wishes, I agree -- but I intend to make it crystal clear in my will that there are to be no restrictions on who can come or how they can arrive at my funeral. I don't care if everyone wants to show up in Porsches, on roller skates, if they wear black, tie-dye or nothing at all. So long as the attendees do not bring physical harm to one another, anything goes. Maybe I'll list a selection of songs in case someone wants to bring a band.

For those not on the PacNW 928 list...here is some info.:

Anyone who will be attending Larry's funeral services and would like a lift can meet at the shop on Sunday A.M. We will be departing at 9:30am sharp. The family has again requested no 928's so I will be driving the Denali which can comfortably seat 6 and squeeze 7.

We're taking the route from the south, driving up through the Peninsula, and driving onto Bainbridge from the northwest. The plan is to join up with Heinrich and any others hopping the Ferry for brunch somewhere on the island.

If you could call or post so we know who to expect that would be helpful.

Shop Address:
3029-D 69th Ave West
University Place, WA 98466

You can call my cell 206-579-5897 or the
shop phone 253-460-0327 if you are planning on hooking up. We can pick people up on the way too....ie. Hwy 16 or Hwy 3.....

H suggested brunch at this place..so barring anything else...this will be the place..:

Again for those in the North End, I will be taking the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge at 10:40 on Sunday. Anyone is welcome to join me.

In this case the wishes are those of Larry's younger daughter.

Sorry to hear that guys. He sounded like one of the good guys.
It seems like as we get older thats all we hear about. I have had three people I knew pass away this week and I am only in my thirties. I guess I feel like I am next after hearing about so many lately.

Well we attended Larry's funeral yesterday. I estimate there were 200 people. Larry was very active in cycling clubs; activism for cyclists' rights locally and many other things such as heavy involvement in acting and singing. Many gave eulogies and Larry's large family and many friends had wonderful things to say about him. His lovely daughters (they seem so little) sang a song beautifully accompanied by their own guitar. It was rainy and muddy.

We went to look at where this very nice guy lost his life and all of us shook our heads in disbelief. It's what I call a nothing spot. A Porsche could easily pass through there at 140 with no issues. The one thing that struck me was the entry of the side road just before the scene. I believe it very likely that someone entered the roadway unexpectedly right there in front of an oncoming Larry, maybe even so close that they hit or almost hit his Porsche.

To me, looking at where he apparently went off the road, it *appears* he may have swerved hard left to avoid something from the right; and in correcting back to the right lost the tail, exiting sideways or partially sideways on the right of hte roadway, dropping maybe 6 feet and hitting two big trees about 14 feet from the road edge, at about 2 feet in the air. I'd say he was going fast. There were apparent pieces of bellhousing about 1" x 1" or so and firewall weather seal at the scene. Something that struck me was the total absence of glass.

To me, and I DON'T KNOW, it looks as if Larry's car hit the two big trees right on the driver's door. This would be fatal at almost any speed. To be honest, I doubt a seatbelt would have made any difference there other than keeping one planted in the driver's seat.

Well, Heinrich, he probably died with a smile on his face. I hope I die that way.

Here's the latest contact from Tim Taylor, one of Larry's local buddies:

Adam –

It was so great of you guys to come yesterday. What a great tribute to a great guy.

A few pieces of info – Larry was at a party on Wing Point (literally a few blocks from where accident occurred). Accident occurred shortly after leaving. Given the filming they did on Sat., he was up pretty early Sat. AM. So, with accident at Sun AM around 3, he had had a long day. I do not know who’s house he was at but they should sure as hell know his sobriety (or not) when he left.

Family is pretty upset by “alcohol involved” public statements. Apparently newpapers got that from the police. Ben, Hilary’s boyfriend (and my sons best friend) called the police. They were apparently very defensive, and indicated something along the line of “that was their best estimate” of why accident occurred. Clearly, until they are ready to make a definitive statement, they should have kept their traps shut.

Autopsy and other reports are supposed to be back within next 7 – 10 days. I have inquired about where car is, but no one seems to know. I assume given death from accident, it is impounded somewhere secure.

As for Education Fund, here is what I can tell you.

It is the Hilary and Lana McMullen Trust, being held at American Marine Bank, Bainbridge Island, WA. I spoke with Michael Klein, who is an attorney and a good friend of Larry’s. He said checks could be sent to him, at the following address –

Michael Klein (and/or Robert Frankland), Trustee
133 Winslow Way East, Unit 2
Bainbridge Island, WA 98110

206.842.1535

If you can get that posted on the 928 site, that would be great. My wife and I are going to make a good contribution. Can you let me know the web address of the 928 site?

Thanks again. Let me know if you run into any issues with bank, or fund or if I can do anything else. I will keep you apprised of info as it becomes available.

I just wanted to add that it was a really nice service in memory of Larry. I have only known Larry in the context of the 928 but hearing from all his other friends and family talk about all the other aspects of his life I can see his passion for the 928 was the same as his passion the other side of his life including bicycling, theater, and his daughters.

I admire him for taking the big step of leaving the corporate world in Seattle to set up his own practice on a small island in order to get more time to do the things he loved and be with the people he loved. This is who Larry was....if he wanted to do it...he just did it..no talk ...no fear (well at least not expressed ) and just do it attitude. As Adam pointed out before, Larry got into the 928 because he really wanted one..even though he knew that he really didn't want to do the mechanical work on the car...just wanted the 928...and got one..jumped in both feet first...

Cheers Larry....hope you are hitting the apexes just right in your 928...

Later,
Tom
