Default Dashless pics

Here are a few more pics that may help someone in the future.

The 1st pic is of the drivers side vent hole. You have to get down low and look up to see the hardest to get to bolt when removing the dash
The second pic shows the pass air bag with dash removed. Note the 2 clamps on the rail... you have to remove the dash to remove the bags.
3rd pic is simply the drivers side-no dash

The next 2 pics are of the lock down mechanism for the steering wheel. It quit working prior to my crash and the steering wheel kind of floated.
Does anyone know how these work?

WSM covers the steering wheel lock update. Look at Vol 4, page 48-33. Shows the before and after hardware.

I updated mine with a used GTS rod a few year back.

Yeah, this is one task that is said to be pretty easy - a few bolts and it pops off. Hmm....I never got it all the way loose during my 79 stripdown, so I resorted to the Sawzall.

Jim: The post-mortem exam is helpful to us, if that eases your pain.

This is why I may not go as far on my 89 as I am with the 78. So much more complexity.

I took the entire heatercore/ac condensor thing out of the 78 today. Pretty simple stuff.

There is so much stuff in those pics I simply don't recognize compared to the cars I have stripped.

Jim...........were you able to access the vacuum actuator for the defrost valve before the dash was completely removed?

I need to reattach the 'green line'.............long story.

I didn't see a green line but I am color blind. Are you talking about one of the 2 acuators here? If so you can get to them by pulling the center console.

It looks more complicated than it is. Pulling the dash is not too bad once you know what needs to be done.

Thanks Jim but BTDT and those actuators are for the footwell and centre comb. The defrost flap is more to the left of those I believe and the plastic vac line is green on my car buried up there somewhere.

Here we go. You might be able to get to it by removing the pod.
