Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Brendan,
I am 99% positive they are solid but we are about to cut one in half to check.
We are also cutting in half a collapsed Porsche original for interest.
Should be able to post pics this week or next week.
Best,
Roger

When Rog cuts a truly solid mount in two pieces, we'll know without a doubt if "solid mounts" are really solid. This is costing him money to prove this. Rog, PM me our PayPal number and I'll send you $10. Perhaps others will want to do the same to help support your study.

That is a really kind offer - thanks but no thanks.
I am making a little bit of profit on each MM so after a while that will cover my costs.
The MM's are ready to be cut and we will post here ASAP.

Roger I'm also interested in your findings. I plan a Motor Mount, Tie Rod, Steering Rack, Pan Gasket and any other small items while I'm in there. If your mounts are similar to Porsche OE I may consider them.
I also need to reread this entire thread again as I can't remember the exact differences.

Afshin,
Reread the post and it will be clear to you.
These are direct replacements for the OE MM and far far better in that they do not fail like the OE ones. And instead of $250 /$350 each they are $30 each.
Same with the oil pan gasket - a much much better design than OE. Fit and forget.

Thanks to my good friend Jim M I now am able to show cross sections of both hydraulic and solid mounts.
As you can see the solid mount is far more substantial than the hydraulic water filled unit.
Selling like "hot cakes" at $30 each.

Rog,
You certainly were right about solid mounts being "solid." My "solid" mounts slosh. When I get my '88, I'll check the mounts out and may be contacting you.

Just added solid mm's and a new oil pan gasket to my mechanic's "to-do" list.
Thanks Roger for researching all of this. I emailed you my info... please overnight me those parts and I'll cut you a check straight away.

This is a great solution for later cars. Sure, a fluid-filled mount will give it that factory, glass-smooth operation. But it obviously carries a risk. I wonder if fitting OB engine shocks would compensate for the lack of fluid damping effect in the solid mounts. They are a damn sight easier to change than the MM itself.
I know the later cars continued to have the mounting boss for these shocks for many years after they stopped using them -- did they stop tapping the threads in them at some point or no?
