February 15 – 19

We have not picked a hotel yet, so far leaning towards west L.A. / Beverly Hills area since its right in the middle of some of the things we want to do. If you have any suggestions, please share them.

So far the only items on the agenda are:

1. Drive Mulholland Drive (In December I only did a portion of it, started in the middle).
2. Visit the observatory from “Rebel Without a Cause” I understand it might not be open, I’m hoping we can still go up there.
3. Lorelei wants to hike up to the Hollywood sign
4. Go to the Grand Star Jazz Club
5. Maybe take a day trip to the site of James Deans accident
6. Maybe Universal Studios
7. Shop (the wife is coming)

So, if anyone is around during this time, let me know, I am willing to drive almost anywhere.

Here is another thread I started about things we might do while in L.A.

H-P... Re: #7 - you, too, can shop in Anaheim, @ 928 Int'l.;
#5 - take the time to eat lunch at the Jack Ranch cafe,
east of Paso Robles, right there at the memorial -
good food.
Don't forget the Petersen Museum.

G'luck.

Is Loralei and your wife two different people?

In case you didn't know, I think you can ride up to the Hollywood sign on horseback. That would probably get you more pimp points and be esier on the tootsies.

Have fun

It becomes almost instinctive with these sort of posts... He's on his "break"...right now. Believe me, it'll be deemed OT. In the words of the supergroup Metallica..."SAD BUT TRUE".

As soon as Keith Widom ,Dan Bise,Dr Bob and the SOCAL guys see this odds are there will be a special 928 gathering. Walking Rodeo Dr in Beverly Hills is an interesting cultural experience but potentially $$$ . Dropping south into Orange County Newport Beach, Laguna is worth seeing (the OC )and South Coast Plaza shopping center (Costa Mesa) is the highest grossing mall in the US as I recall with all the high line stores and Sears, go figure . You want to drive Hwy 1 to Malibu north from Santa Monica. I would probably not stay in Beverly Hills unless someone else was paying the bill.

Everybody has opinions on hotels, and there's a bunch to choose from. Prices in your target area can get quite impressive, along with the address. I use the Renaissance on Hollywood blvd. Tell them you are with IBM, and the rate is around $180/nite. If you ask nice, they may give you a room on 19 or 20 with a view of city lights. Lots of shopping nearby, all the attractions are close (Graumann's Chinese theatre is next door).

As for museums, the Petersen is okay, but for real car nuts, the Nethercutt collection is much better. You need a invitation to get in, but it's worth the hassle. Contact them now for a tour in Feb.

If you're of the thrill ride catagory, Six Flags in Valencia is the best in the world. For a nice drive, better than Mulholland, go up the front side of Big Bear mtn, and down the back side to Wrightwood. Lots of twisties, so don't do it on a full stomach.

San Diego is a great side trip, about two hours south. Beaches, golf, Sea World, Old Town, etc. Mexico is a bit further, but bypass Tijauna and go down the coast to Ensenada. Stop on the way for lobster at about 1/4 the cost of US meal and come back after midnight when the crossing is quiet.

Yep, San Diego... it's 84 degrees as I write this, no humidity (Santa Ana). No reason to head this way at all .
