Well, it was in the upper 60ies and sunny today around here, not too bad, either...

I'll be around. You might try hotels in Santa Monica and/or Westwood. Like the W hotel.

Since you'll be in LA, go to "The Grove", there is Neiman Marcus, Great Full Service Movie Theater. Maybe there will be a free Concert at The Grove ...also enjoy the Open Air Farmers Market. This is extremely close to the Peterson's Automove Museum, La Brea Tar Pits and The Fine Arts Museum.

hacker--

Give us a heads-up when you finalize your tour plans. Many of the SoCal group will gather to socialize, just need to schedule.

The Nethercutt collection is self-guided tourable, but the best deal is a group and a guided tour of all the exhibits. Nethercutt was a 'friendly' competitor with Bill Harrah when it came to restorations and winning the Pebble Beach Concours. I believe Nethercutt has more Best in Shows there than anyone else. Besides the cars, there's an incredible display of other fine art and rare/expensive stuff. This is the Merle Norman Cosmetics family money at work, by the way. If we know when you are coming and what day(s) you have available, we can try to get a tour appointment. No charge IIRC, just need to get the reservation in before the dates are booked. The collection is housed in Sylmar, about 15 miles or possibly two driving hours north of L.A. downtown. Your wife will enjoy it too.

I agree with Nicole. Come up here where the cool people live and I'll even arrange for bail so I can get a pass from jail. We can all go to Nicole's and party there (right Nicole?) I would invite you to me place but the food is terrible and the aesthetics are not so fine with all the bars on the windows and doors. But the place is secure, that's for sure.

Uh... Ron? There may be cool folks in other places in the country.

I used to live in Manhattan Beach way back before Walt K. Local shirts proclaimed "There's no life east of Sepulveda" Turns out there is.

......uhm, we ALL will, we live here! But we were here last time too with lot's of suggestions and never saw you.

You will be here for 4 days, 2 of which will probably be filled with traveling if I am guessing correctly. Based on your list, you have enough items to take up a week! You won't have a 928. In all honesty, what would you actually need/want us for? Suggestions we can give, as there is more to do here than can be done in a lifetime. A get together with 928's doesn't realistically fit into the scheme of things you have tentatively planned.

I would think the most time you are going to have is to meet for dinner or a drink.

Last minute never works. You need to make a plan now. If you want to get together for a drink and meet a few folks, this can be arranged.

I only say all of this because I KNOW how it is...best intentions are there, but the time realistically isn't.

It would be great to get together, so just let us know what night you can leave open and we will suggest a location for drinks or dinner in WLA.

Hope we can hook up!

Dr. Bob:

I know.....I once lived down there too. I got thirsty so I moved up here. But H-P could visit both areas and that would give us all an excuse for a party.

You snuck this in while I was typing up the post below. I've been thinking about visiting the site of James Dean's crash, maybe saving that for our trip to Monterey.

You want to drive Hwy 1 to Malibu north from Santa Monica. I would probably not stay in Beverly Hills unless someone else was paying the bill.
Sounds awesome (all of it). I know Lorelei will want to see Rodeo Dr, maybe I should open a new gold card just for that day. I made it to Santa Monica Pier in December, just in time for the sunset. I’m thinking San Diego on Thursday and L.A. Friday – Saturday.
So far hotels I’ve looked into are Sunset Tower, Best Western Beverly Pavilion, around this area.

Since I was able to hit the Peterson in December, the Nethercutt Collection looks like a good idea.

There are a couple blocks of all kinds of interesting clothing stores.

As far as other "touristy" things to do, you might want to check out
Venice Beach. And I would also highly recommend the drive on PCH
from Santa Monica north into Malibu. If you want, you can hit Mullholland
and PCH on the same trip. It dumps out onto PCH up by the Ventura
county line...
Lorelei already mentioned Melrose, so it’s on the agenda. When I drove Mullholland Dr in Dec I somehow ended up on Ventura Blvd (stopped at Barns & Noble for a coffee) then took Topanga Canyon Road down to PCH – then on to the Santa Monica Pier. This time I think we will head north to Malibu.

Funny you should say that. We were going to attend the LBGP in April, instead we are thinking about the Monterey Historics instead. Just an idea right now, I’ll keep you and the rest of the NorCal group posted.

Keith, dr bob, and the rest of the SoCal group,
The last trip was very last minute, until I arrived at IBM I had no idea how much free time I would have.

This trip is wide open. We have a few things we would like to see, other than that I’m open to whatever works out the best for the group. I figured meet up somewhere after everyone is off work for a drink / dinner. The only place I know of (that I’ve been to before) is the Yard House in Long Beach next to the Queen Mary. I’m not saying we have to meet here, just sharing what area I’m the most familiar with (so far). I’m going to rent a Hertz car with NeverLost – works great. Just give me the address and I will find it. Without this system I would have wasted a lot of time in December missing exits and streets.

Lets plan on either Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night – we are planning on being in L.A. by late afternoon Thursday at the latest. I will also have my laptop along and internet access along the way.

The only club we have on the list is the Grand Star Jazz Club. If anyone is interested in checking this place out, or a good reason not to go there, let me know.

Lorelei really wants to visit some kind of upscale night club. If anyone has any suggestions, please post them.

I don't think many of us are considering Long Beach as L.A.

I think the best thing to do, depending on where you are bunking down, is to meet up in West LA after you have done your Beverly Chills shopping. This is a good central location for any who are coming north, south....

Friday night is horrid on the freeways trying to travel across town for dinner or drinks. Thursday night may be too soon for you guys to relax. Saturday night may be the best and easiest for all...whom ever this may be. Hopefully some others will chime in with their opinions.

Keith,
We will work around everyone else's schedule; we are on vacation so we have no agenda, just a list of things we want to do. I’m going to try and save Rodeo Drive for the last day or we will be out of money for the rest of the trip!

Let’s plan around the fact that we will be in L.A. sometime Thursday morning and we are willing to drive anywhere reasonable.
My first night in L.A. last December I drove over to PCH (from Cypress) up to Long Beach, over to San Pedro then I’m not sure where.
The next night I stated at 928 Intl, cruised over to the Hard Rock in L.A., the Hard Rock in Universal City, then up Angels Highway at 11PM trying to find some observatory up there. I did not think to fill up the tank before I climbed up a mountain, had to turn back running on fumes. From there over to Long Beach to visit Jeff from the 944 side.
Basically what I’m getting at is, I’m not against driving anywhere.

Slight change in plans:

February 11th we will be at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego around 5ish PST. We leave for Mexico Sunday afternoon. So, if any of you San Diego residents are around on the 11th, either tell me where to meet you or head over to the Coronado.
