Lets see-
Replaced the wheel with a MOMO, covered the dash in leather, refinished the outside, bought sheepskins, fixed the A/C, and a nuisancesome short- Now
The drivers side door does not open from the outside- I can pull on it several times and then it opened, but now zilch.
Any advice and wisdom greatly appreciated !

Mike:
Get the part from your 928 parts supplier. When you say you door handle is broken, they will know what you need. Bring the part over. Brian just did his, so we'll get him to show us how it's done.

It is late- 22:50-
I finally got the necessary part to fix my non opening driver's side door from DEVEK and NOW
The drivers door works ! Why ?? Why did it not previously ::
Still think it needs fixing but now I can begin to understand why people ascribe personalities to their cars .

Uh, wait a minute...If it's working again, then the pot metal part was not broken but something is out of adjustment/loose. Come over this weekend and we can take a look. Hold on to the pot metal part - you will need it sometime sooner or later. You're building a little emergency spare parts supply.

Does sound like something on the door handle assembly is loose, not broken. I changed mine last year, not difficult just takes a long time because of the limited access - you also have to keep moving the window glass up and down to access the different bits. I also took the opportunity to throw away the big "anti-theft" steel plate, it must weigh a couple of pounds.
if you want to practice first, choose a room at home, cut a 3inch by 1inch slot in the door and then decorate the room through the slot.

Mike... no doubt Bill & Perry have it right. My left side handle
was 'hokey' for a year before it broke. Pulling up on the
foremost end of the handle opened the door but the aft
end was ineffective. That's where the crack developed
and eventually broke the potmetal.
Be sure to check the part #; left & right are different (left =
928.537.063.04), assuming it is the same part we all know
and love.
G'luck.
