I don't know for sure, but it's bigger than 57mm because that's the smaller pulley size I plan on going to soon. Maybe 62mm??

Lightbulb BEGI left me stranded

Thought I'd pass this along to fellow BEGI owners...

Bill (koenig928) and I were finishing an ST session when I noticed my fuel pressure gauge was pegged at 99 psi at idle! I immediately turned off the engine; luckily we were at a turn off an no traffic. I popped the hood and didn't see any problems, and then we checked the fuel pump fuse and relay, both good. I started the engine and had normal pressure. We logged another WOT run and went back to Bills to burn an EPROM.

She ran fine for the first 8 miles then the fuel pressure pegged again, I'm assuming it was in the 100's. Only this time I was in a bad location on one of our busy highways and no shoulder to pull off on. I couldn't start the engine because the pressure stayed maxed. I started checking the basics as before and the then removed the fuel pump relay and jumpered the connections, still pegged 99 psi. Then I tried to by-pass the BEGI by removing and capping the vacuum lines, it still didn't change the fp. Had to call a flatbed to carry her home

As soon as we got her parked in the garage, I checked one last time and it was still bad. So I decided to go after the easiest thing first, I took the BEGI apart and sure as **** the aluminum square was cracked which allowed a constant vacuum leak? Luckily I had several spares on hand that Mr. Corky Bell himself sent me several months back during trouble-shooting inconsistent fp's. I replaced the aluminum, put it back together, and she fired right up

I can't believe how the BEGI is put together; in theory it's a big component for such an easy design. I'll be very happy to get rid of it and not have to worry if it's actually regulating my fp's correctly

Darien,
You shouldn't have any need for the BEGI POS when using the ST. You will need larger injectors. 36# or 42#. Revert back to a stock 928 FPR. You could use an S4 FPR for a bit higher base pressure, but that should be all you need. The BEGI is just trouble waiting to happen.

Hi Louie,

I know, the only reason I still have it installed is beacuse I need to remove my intake manifold to swap out my 86 fpr with an s4. I don't have time and with it being my daily driver. I have to wait until I can get a s4 fpr and have it in hand and a long weekend

Darien, for the extra few $$$ I recommend getting DR's adjustable FPR. It replaces the OEM FPR in the OEM position with the OEM fittings and will provide you with some useful tuning options.

I found that I was unable to bring some A/F cells into line with the ST at the OEM fuel pressure. That was with 36# injectors and S4 FPR. Minor tweaking of the fuel pressure with Dave's adjustable unit allowed me to bring those recalcitrant cells into the green.

Default Hose fittings

Hi,
I'm tidying up an intercooled TS installation and need some of the black plastic hose connections that Andy used. Does anyone know where he sourced those? They would be the 90 deg angles, screw on caps, reducers, etc. I could use something else, but I want to keep the appearance the same for all.

Thanks

Andy got most of his stuff from here:
http://www.mcmaster.com/
although I'm not sure what parts that would be. It's a big online catalog.

Bill (or anyone that knows),
Where did the crank pulley come from? I'm trying to put a smaller pulley on the snout of the Eaton but the pulley on it is a modified KB and it may be easier to use a slightly larger crank pulley if I can source it.
Thanks,

I have a similar question ( Hi Rick)

I have the 2.4 liter intercooled twinsrcew and I am seeing 7 PSI on it under full load. Does anyone know where I can get an 8 PSI pulley? Since I run this car hard at DE events....I just don't want to jump much more than another pound. And I'm still looking for someone near Ohio with a Shark tuner for and 85 to rent or drive to for a tune.

Thanks,

Ken

Thanks,
No leads on the crank pulley. It could be a custom machine job, expensive for a one-off. We had chatted with Murph earlier in this thread about pulleys. He may have a source for making them. Maybe DR has a source. If we got 8 or 10 of us Supermodel owners together, we might be able to get a new pulley for a reasonable price.

Bill:

Do you know what the next size smaller pulley from a 2.75 would yield ? That's with one of Andy's lower pulleys?

Thanks,

Ken
