I prefer the commando - only because that what I used and it worked fine.

Agree with Roger - Both will probably work - but we have experience with Commando so know exactly how it will work - others may vary for the install...
Mine was a KL55 I thnk - I'm sure very similar.
Tib - I had a similar thought for a millisecond or 2 - ages ago - give it up!
The only factory key heads that have multiple buttons are way-way bigger than a Porche key head. Just accept you will have a seperate little fob thingy and you'll come to like it just fine. Most have 3-4 buttons: Unlock/Disarm, Lock/Arm, Hatch/Tuunk & maybe a Panic button. If you really wanted to I'm sure you could fine a Porsche decal to stick on it!

Randy thanks for the reminder, you should be getting a commission check in the mail from DEI soon .... I just bought a second Viper (this one's for my Bronco).

Tib,
True - but I can imagine how expensive even a replacement key for a Cayenne will be.... then - I shouldn't imagine you could use it with anything but the Cayenne alarm/ access controller... $$$$$$$!!
It would be nice though.

Well, Hanukkah Harry brought me a Commando keyless entry system. Alan, I have your GTS schematic printed out. And I have seen the pictures of your wiring in the stock amp location. Are there any pictures of how you attached the alarm wiring to you stock wires? I need a visual.
Thanks
Thanks

I have an S4 with no factory alarm and a manual transmission. I picked up a "928 system" on Ebay recently. After opening it up, I realized I might need support. The system I bought turned out to be a generic system (from Hong Kong) with badly translated installation instructions.
Shall I forge ahead (if, basically all systems are the same) or should I stop, chalk it up to experience and use either the Commando or the Crimestopper? I'm concerned with the manual transmission, as well as the lack of a factory alarm.
If I go the second route, are they both readily available, and what is the cost?

Lex. Toss it. I did it too ...... long ago Same kind of thing. Not worth installing and cutting your wires up for. Incidentally those coolers ....

Good to hear they're behaving themselves. I think I can repair them in the future. Do you have any experience with either Commando or Crimestopper? Specifically, in regards to a manual transmission car without factory alarm?

Tib,
I don't have any photos of the alarm unit connections.
Remove passenger seat - remove metal cover over alarm unit. Alarm unit has 2 connectors a big and a small. The big has the heavy guage wires for driving the interior lights horn, turn signals etc, the small one has the signal wires for the alarm pin switch sensors and lock/unlock, hatch key etc. The terminal positions are as the diagram poseted earlier - the wire colors are per the wiring diagrams (Let me know if you need more details).
You can connect to these wires there and although space is limited its possible to get all the connections you need with IDC type tap connectors (Get the right sizes for the wire gauges you need - big & small types). Then you can route this bundle of wires (sheathed hopefully) under the seat rail into the area where the amp was - there is a convenient gap under the seat rail there for a few inches. I used a spiral wrap and split loom cover for protection.
I don't noirmally like the tapcon style connectors but I could not source the connector terminals needed for the alarm plugs at the time.
I'd have preferred to crimp the new wires to the old in replacement connector terminals... It is also possible to access most of these signals at the Central Electric Panel plug connections - but this is also hard to connect to (although I know how to replace terminals for these - you won't find it easy - they are special order types....) so tapcons are the easiest way to go at either locations - under the seat (and metal shield) once they are on there is no movement or stress on them so they aren't likely to get disturbed.

If the signatures are correct, Alan and Andrew () have installed these on manual cars. How does the remote start get past the possibility of the car being in gear when starting?
Also, I couldn't find either the Commando KL55 or the KE30 when I searched Commando's website. Are these older models?
Viper looked good too, but the model I looked at, stated it was specifically for automatic cars with fuel injection.
I've got the interior all apart, so I've got to decide/buy quickly.

Alan, for my edification, we are talking about attaching the wires at the alarm module?

Tib,
Yes at the alarm unit. Use Blue Tapcons for the big connector wires and red for the smaller ones - should work OK.
Lex,
The KL55 is an older model - there is a close modern equivalent (posted earlier) seems the major difference is 3 button remotes vs my 4 button remotes (mine has panic button also - sets off alarm).
The KL55 has no remote start capability - most very basic keless entry systems did not when I was looking (although you could add it on) - I would not install this on a manual - to me this was not a very interesting feature.
Note that most keyless entry systems seem to be defeatured alarm systems by the same manufacturer so they can often use add on modules for alarms or have "odd" alarm based features. For example mine has a "valet" mode - why ? it serves no purpose since there are no alarm features....
