Who knows what the name "Lagavulin" actually means?

http://www.scotchwhisky.com/focus/lagavulin.htm

I'm not insinuating anything. But in my viewpoint, Andy Keel was attacked out of the blue with no provocation.

Doesn't make sense. Draw your own conclusions. I already have-

I refuse to dislike a man because he likes scotch whiskey

IMO continuing to talk about Lag while he is away is uncool.

Normy,

Have you ever had any Lagavulin Scotch? It is a damn fine whiskey. My admin. assistant went to Scotland last year and brought me back a bottle. Very tasty indeed! Not that that has one bit to do with Paul one way or the other. Don't know him and can't attest. The booze is good though.

No Geoff...I haven't. I salute his taste in beverage- trust me. This Paul has a lot of class. I can't stomach any sort of whiskey, but I still don't know why Andy was attacked. For some reason...I can kind of relate to Andy's plight.

Jim-
Yes I was, so I guess it makes me a vet, albeit an ignorant one . I have neither any idea if L6D did get his shark (or tricycle), nor if he returned with a new alias and attitude.

I tend to Laphroaig myself, but when it comes to malts I am easy to please

I've asked for this several times. It's just too simple of an idea for people to put into practice without feeling like a pansy.

NB: PANSY-ASSED IDEA AHEAD.....

Here's what I do when I feel the urge to ATTACK some one. THIS HAS BEEN TESTED AND IT WORKS. I write all the bullcrap I can think of. I really lay it on. All the sordid fantasies, like Marc breaking manifolds, women and children laughing, but I REALLY lay it on. Lots of pissing and swearing and references to ancestors. Horrendous sarcasm. Brutal invective. Pointed digs. It feels GREAT to do that. Then I go through the post and edit out all the BS that has nothing to do with the facts and just send that. It's actually pretty easy to separate fact from invective. The act of writing exorcizes the anger, need to be a blowhard and put some one else down to make you feel better. It's unfortunate that many people enjoy putting other people down, especially when it's really cleverly done, and other people applaud it. There is a dark area of our esteem that is fed by this kind of chest-pounding. Once you see that it is a destructive urge and deal with it by the simple act of editing your words from a 3rd person perspective, things get clearer and cleaner. We are able to stay on the real issues and avoid wasteful threads like this. The few times I've left personal insults in, I've always regretted it. I regret saying Lag had serious mental problems. I should have edited that out. Everything up to that may have been fine, but that last unnecessary jab can ruin the whole post.

Anyway, I'm not kidding. It may sound dumb to all the intellectuals here, but writing the most heinous stuff you can and then editing it down to the bare facts takes care of your need to ventilate. The results are always better than leaving the insulting crap in.

I don't expect competitors to be best friends, but at least they can be civil to each other. It's really not very hard. You just have to give up the notion that it's OK to to try to prove you are better by trying to bring someone else down.

I work in marketing and I have been trying to promote the idea that we market our products with positive statements rather than focusing on negative campaigns about the competition. There is no doubt that negative campaigning works (***** Horton) and that is why it is done. That's the world at large. It will destroy a community like this.

.
You are right Bill...it has been said by a former mentor of mine...write it all down and save it for 24Hours before you press the *send key*...if you still feel the same way 24Hours+ later go ahead and send it. I have done this before and 24 Hours later can't fathom how stupid my mind could have been to craft such a dumb assed letter. But, then again- I have not done it and press that *send key* in 24 seconds and have repeated my same words in regret and only after the other party is reading my flamer .

Reading this thread, I think I know now why things in the White House get so screwed up sometimes...

Then in my case I have been saving it for 2 years... lol.
Like I said just aspects that needed to be remedid. I'd like to think that my post was tame. I also have no real issues with Lag or the rest, just hate to see things get so off canter when I know "things".

Jeez I know gas prices are high but surely you guys have enough to go for drive, instead of nine pages of this stuff.

Bill Ball- I don't think that's a "pansy-assed" idea at all. In fact, it simply means that you're more mature than several people who have posted on this thread. Keep up the good work please.

For what it is worth, I don't think that Lagavulin/Paul should receive the ire of this community, and I hope he comes back. Do a search- look at his posts. That guy always has a thumbs up or an attaboy for everyone when they achieve something with their car, and he has intelligent things to say in general. In this case, he got out of line a little bit...but how many of you live in glass houses? I sure do.

As for the (long) stories I've held mine for a long time because (it is long and) it should have never come to this. The two sides should have just agreed to disagree and maybe poke fun at each other on the occasion...
hi chris,
yup, the stuff went into the '89 s4 (tilo car already had a cool setup but is way different now; another story)
took a couple of failures to get there (crank pulley spun on the crank once-bonehead mistake on my part, and broke a crank bolt when it decided to walk partway out.) things i might not have had happen on a "kit" but i've always enjoyed creating my own thing.
relevence to this thread:
full support no questions asked from both delta-p (never bought anything from them though the bracket and pulleys you sold me was theirs) and tim murphy (who stood to gain zero from helping me.) can't comment on andy as i did not seek advice there, but it would be great to think that the same support would be given.
guys like that are the ones i enjoy dealing with.
