just use 1.75 x .120" as this is common. SCCA PRO and most clubs spec 1.75" x .095".

Before we start listing all the suppliers you may have contacted, who turned you down?

for over 2,500 lbs POC lists 1.75 x.095 as OK for mild steel their rules are usually pretty close to PCA rules. So cars can run with both Porsche clubs. I do not know what is required recommended for the Open Road Events. Custom fabricated cages cost thousands......I think my material alone was $500 or so(DOM tube) plus huge amounts of time bending ,fitting, welding.

Yeah Shane, OG is the first one I emailed.

OG and IO portracing said they did not have the cage I was looking for. NOt to say they dont have 928 cages just not the one I want for this car.

The ORR rules state that any car over 3200lb must have a 2.00 OD or so the copy I have says/

Which ORR group is this? MKM and Silverstate are 1.75", unless they have not posted a 2005 rule change. 2004 was 1.75".

You are correct 2.00" .120 wall. We have a lot of tubing in mild steel and chrome-alloyed steels.

Thanks

Thurston,

The 2" roll bar is recommended, but not required by MKM for vehicles
over 3200 lbs. You can contact Marc at DEVEK (SF Bay Area) about this,
I know he has built more then one cage for the 928. You could also check
with Motorsport SLC, Utah.

Prices are as follows:

2.00"X.120" wall in welded seam $96.68 per 20 foot length
2.00"X.120" wall in seamless tubing 106.60 per 20 foot length

2.00"X.120 in 4130 alloy tube $202.50 per 20 foot lenght.

Prices move around daily so make sure to secure your order with whoever you buy it from.

Hope this helps.

If you plan to go fast, you must also be prepared to crash.

I used 1.75 x .188 1020 DOM on all main hoops, and for intrusion protection, I used 1,75 x .095 for intrusion protection.

Ask for certs on the material of choice.

Why not ChMo - cause it is TOO stiff - directs all impact force to the body rather than deforming and absorbing the crash energy.

Carges are not cheap - time and materials

You want this done right, it is the difference between life, death and in between.

Right Marc. My time in a stock car showed me that -weight means faster laps but it also showed me that the cage is no place to find fast - weight.

So with that in mind and all the info you all have gave me to chew on the search continues.

Thanks all

I would install jet ejection seat with parachute too. I dont care how good the cage is, at those speeds, your going to be in a rock tumbler! dont forget some type of head and neck restraints. recently been using them just for speedGT races, but when you put it on , its pretty comfortable, and doesnt restrict your driving movements. Just a little hassle to put on before a race. when you got it on, you can really see how it can save your life (and your neck)

I used head and arm restraints when I was racing. Those arm restraints saved my arms big time during a bad wreck. And after that wreck I also went with head/neck restraints on my new car.

All this is making me miss my stock car dang it..

Stock car wrecks in my class happened at about 60 to 90mph. And I was in a fair share of them. The thought of hitting something or turning over at 150 gives me the *******..

Traveling at over 3.5 miles per m inute is pure rush.....knowing that if screw up or something "happens", you might end up tumbling in the desert for up to .75 mile add a bit of heightened awareness that few will ever know. MOST of the time, accidents do not result in a sudden stop....

Susan and I will head on out in our GTS some time next year or use the white car, now capable of over 230 mph, to punch a bigger hole in the 200 mph club. MAYBE not with either of us driving though
