Okay, after 3 days of crawling around inside a 928 we finally got rid of all the tar, foam and contact adhesive. Used the heatgun tip to remove the tar, and liberal amounts of acetone applied by paintbrush to remove the residue.
Geesh, I'm hurting in places i didn't know i had places, lol, but I guess it was worth it, ditching more weight from the car +/- 70kg.
Now we gotta paint the inside...

We didn't have much time to work on the car yesterday, but we quickly painted the front half of the interior, cut the skid plates and put them in there (loose) to get a feel for what it's gonna look like -

Aren't those skid plates going to be in the way of the cage? Looks nice. Did the tar come off easily with acetone? I'm NOT looking forward to doing the interior, although I will probably get to work on it next week sometime.

You must use a heatgun to remove the tar. Acetone only removes the residue underneath. The interior is a **** job, but the rewards are huge. You can get rid of plenty weight here = cheap mod and you will cut more weight than you could imagine.
Good luck and post pics, will ya?
Cheers,
Pierre.

An interesting point worth mentioning - We noticed the more we strip stuff from the interior (and the rest of the car) to save weight, the more it bends when you jack it up at one corner, the doors won't open or close when jacked up anymore...
The tub is very flexible. Perhaps the roll cage will sort that out.

I have about half of it out with the heat gun so far, but the residue looks pretty mean as well. I'll definitely update my thread soon, once I'm done with the rod bearings.
What did you do about the body glue (or whatever) that was under the tar paper? ...that off-white junk that is squishy.
I hear ya about doing stuff out of sequence... I tend to leave the worst stuff for last.

Sad news.
I don't know whether it is right posting this, but my heart goes out to Gavin and his family. His son passed away this morning. It's been a hard struggle for all involved since November last year. I'm just an outsider, but I've witnessed his family take strain and go through tough emotional times.
If you've been following this thread, please spare a moment of thought for a fellow 928 enthusiast - Gavin, and please shoot a prayer for him and his family.
Thank you.
Pierre.

Thanks for the compliments.
I'm fetching the car from Gavin's place tomorrow. When I get it home I'll take plenty pics from all angles and post them here.
Cheers,
Pierre.
