Those are some serious heat cracks. I wonder what is going on to cause them. major slipping or something else?

I'll add it to my list of things to do. The front discs definitely take precidence though, I know they must be well out of spec as they have approx 3mm lip on either side.

Just putty knife in some JB Weld and sand it off with some sandpaper. should be fine...

DONT ACTUALLY DO THIS. Buy a new flywheel asap. Good luck!

5 years later - you should have started a $10/month flywheel savings account.

Be thankful it lasted this long.

At 5000 RPM that flywheel has more energy per Grain or Ounce than a 357 Magnum bullet leaving the barrel.

This fact was reported by Hot Rod Magazine several years ago.

A flywheel can cut you and your car in half.

Do NOT put that one back in the car.

Age and Mileage - ? Probably the original flywheel, and this car did belong to Derek Bell when it was new.

Thanks, Adrian does have a used flywheel and he want me to make him an offer, not seen any pics yet - any suggestions?

Yes, that crack in the original picture had to progress to this. Consider yourself lucky that you removed it before it exploded.

Like I said, I'm not putting it back on now I can see how deep it is, but I've not been able to find a single report of a flywheel failure on a street car, plenty on modified, competition or drag - but not standard road cars.

I would be looking at cause! flywheels shouldnt look like that, no matter how old. a weak pressure plate could be the cause. way too much heat in that flywheel!

Not on a 928, but I know of two that have let go in street cars.
One with serious injuries, the other just a lot of property damage.

I now have a used flywheel with 20,000 miles on it, and it looks almost unmarked. Some of you may have seen the Dark Blue GTS driven by Jeremy Clarkson on one of his recent DVDs, sadly that car suffered a fuel line fire and has now been parted out. Cheburator has the engine which he is in the process of rebuilding, and I now have the flywheel.

That's a shame, it looked like quite a nice motor
