Flooring going down in the entry/bar/kitchen/bathrooms and soon, the entertainment area and beehive room. Plus, painting the ceilings and finishing the door and window jams and frames.

Waking up to a 7 degree day with snow predicted for the next three days. Winter continues to have a tenacious grip on the great white north...
This was 4/24/2021 and we are approaching one year of constant construction during a time of logistical nightmares and labor shortages. Like all things worthwhile, it takes discipline, dedication and above all, a patient sense of humor to push through the barriers...
It started out as an idea and a distressed, non-conforming industrial zoned property with a small home on it...
The home was de-constructed, moved, re-constructed and donated to a needy family. During this time I have travelled a bunch, completed the extra garage at the cottage, bought a few cars, changed a lot of oil and anti-freeze, done a ton of research, written, composed, torn a bicep tendon, torn my right achilles tendon and the labrum in my left hip and learned that my femoral head had lost its circulation. The bone is dead and grinding away with every step. The hospital is only running the surgical schedule for "elective" cases at 30% because of covid and staff burnout, there has been a significant delay. Every day the pain gets worse and I can barely walk right now. In the next 60 days I am scheduled to get a new hip.
Our fantastic builder and his team will complete this building and be wrapping up the site work and starting the landscaping as I recover. Then comes the move in.
Screw the pain, screw the cost... Show up every day... This is happening...
What I am doing is nothing compared to this incredible talent:

My prayers are with you Dave and your lovely wife. May you get the surgery you need, and recover 100%. Less pain means more fun in the cars.

Dave, sorry to hear. My best to you for a speedy recovery. I don't know you personally, I don't own a Porsche, but the camaraderie and the support of this community is something to behold.
Hang in there!
Cheers

Things went from bad - to worse...
The next few lines are a small tribute to a great woman... it is OT - don't read it...
A week ago Saturday, my wonderful 93 year old mom passed away in her sleep.
Like her entire life her last day was a full day. It started with a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs (her staple) and then teaching an exercise class (she had incredible personal energy). After a quick shower, she went about her day, shopping, getting her hair styled, stopping by the jewelry store to have her wedding ring cleaned and replacing the chain on her favorite necklace. In the evening she went to dinner and celebrated her son-in-laws birthday. When she returned home she took out a bunch of photo albums and enjoyed what appears to be a lengthly review of her life. When she got tired she curled up in bed and went to sleep.
Just after one am, I started to wake from a dream in which I was thanking her for all the large and little things she had done for me from my childhood through the crazy teenage years, my years of ski racing, writing and and through my business life... It felt like I was actually talking to her... When I had fully awakened, I wondered if she had passed because the dream was so intensely real. I marked the time at 1:15 am and fell back into a restless sleep. It was an uneasy morning with a dense fog over the bay. The usual bird chatter was quiet, there was no wind. At 9:00 or so I received the news that she had passed quietly in the night - with a smile on her face.
She had lived life on her own terms and she left on her own terms.
I could reach into the rich texture of words to try to describe the loss... however...
There are no words...
Here she is last summer when the Car Cave was just getting going...
Tonights two dear sunset on the beach in front of the house...
Good Speed to her fine spirit...

So while I have been dragging my body around, progress has been made at the Car Cave.
Woodwork nearly completed in the: kitchen, bathrooms, bar, bee/clean room, mezzanine, office.
Baseboards
Doorframes
Crown molding
Window casements & seats (main floor)
Window casements (upper floor)
Tons of the electrical has been finished including:
Plug outlets & ceiling outlets for lighting
20% of the interior lighting
Vinyl faux wood flooring in all of the rooms and part of the garage area:
Asymmetrical lift is installed:
Concrete has been polished, but I do not like the finish...
Garage doors are roughed in:

Dave, my sincere condolences for your mother.
93 years is a long life which in all probability was also very rich in content. I'm sorry she did not get to see your car cave finished.
More than five years ago, my mother passed away at the age of 99, the oldest in the family. A school friend of mine has his old mother still at an age of 105 years. She is the oldest in her city.
Hope you will get your new hip soon. From what I understand, such a surgery often goes very well. A 928 friend of ours got a new hip a few years ago. To our surprise, he was out walking in the garden just a few days after surgery. Two weeks later he was up climbing on the roof of the house.
