Usual way to proceed, it seems. At least, this is what is used here too.

Yes on the sponge pushed through the line with water as the preferred cleaning method for the pumper truck lines.

At last the interior concrete is finished and it looks like the floor ended up being 7 - 8"'s thick according to how much we used! YEAH baby, strong stuff!

Interior framing has commenced with another crew on site while the concrete and grading guys rip into trying to get the aprons poured on Friday or Monday if the crappy weather holds over the weekend. Today it looks like 30 - 40 mph winds and cooler temps (like the upper thirties).

Love the covered veranda! We have eliminated landscaping from along the edge and the asphalt will be at the same level as the concrete for a trip free zone all the way around the building. I'm going for low maintenance wherever possible.

Put the U-Boat up for the winter yesterday. Seems a shame to put anything this fun to drive away for a nearly five month nap...

These beauties are what its all about...

Does the "PHAT AZZ" on this car make my building look small?

Indeed it is! That photo was taken less than 20 miles from the Car Cave right on Lake Michigan... Epic Day!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~
Windy, rainy, day and yet we poured some of the porch... Was too dark to get t good shot as the plastic went up to protect from the gusts to 40...
MOAR STICKS!!!
The quarter-panels look great!
Was that from the factory, or did you have it done?
I think GTS quarters make a huge difference on a 928 - it should have come that way right from the beginning.
That is the only Factory U.S. 928 XX8 GT. It was built for the New York Auto Show and subsequently sold to the public. The XX8 option refers to "Widebody" and there is a thread dedicated to the car on Rennlist. Just google 1991 928 GT XX8 Rennlist to learn a bunch more.
Todays trivia tidbit:
There were 17 total XX8 GT's worldwide.
1 U.S.
16 Germany
There were 62 total XX8 S4's worldwide.
50 Japan (LHD)
9 Germany
2 South Africa
1 Belgium
Double trivia tidbit:
The first 12 GTS's had XX8 listed as an option because they used XX8 quarter panels and gas door (Slightly different than standard GTS quarter panels.
GTR, apologies if you have already detailed this, but what's your plan for interior lighting? Big interior spaces like that have the potential to be dreadfully harsh if the choice of lighting is too "industrial". A combination of direct, and softer indirect lighting, might be a more enjoyable environment, AND show off the lines and curves better.
Obviously in a space that big it has to be efficient, which probably means LED nowadays. Be aware that there is a wide variation of quality there... but I bet you already know that...
Cheers
Another great question - - - Have not discussed lighting in the thread that I recall... Lot's of it but it's the weakest part of the design because it only has two main systems in the warehouse area. Industrial strength bright white - and - 5 circuits of individual variable wash lighting. There is an old Waterford Crystal Chandelier hanging from the ceiling near the entry, some old movie set lights and a bunch of interesting lamps that have been collected... Also an 18.5' tall 60" Texaco sign that will be lit with to led's on rheostats. We did all sorts of exotic things in the house but its more conventional with this building.
The industrial lighting will do 130 lumens everywhere without shadowing in the warehouse.
Feel free to throw in some ideas, we are starting wiring in the next three weeks.
Well, I don't know much about architectural lighting, but I work as a cinematographer, so any time I've filmed "sheet metal" it usually involves a very large, soft unit (there are various styles including balloon lights) Sometimes we'll use large "china *****".
I read an article recently about a car show and the lighting firm with some interesting techniques:
https://www.kinetic-lights.com/portf...tion-mercedes/
The Mercedes commercial was interesting because rather than one unit, they used many smaller *****, for a soft effect but distinct shapes on the car.
It might be fun to make a focal point somewhere in your main space, using some kind of interesting fixtures like the ones featured in that firm's website. I'm not sure if there will be a "show area" within that space.
Certainly, your ideas of the chandelier and movie lights will add some bling which will be terrific.
Cheers
RH - - - Diffused light and not directly on the subject? FYI - there will be a "show" area. Like the big china ***** idea, that will help acoustically as well... Thx!
Yes, exactly. You see how, in your photo, the lights are aimed at the walls and ceiling, and the light on the car is actually just the reflection of the light painted on the other surfaces? The result is what you often see in car commercials and photos; it's a gorgeous way to show off lines and curves.
In your case, the reflection will be trusses, other lighting fixtures, and some windows. Any large, soft source above the show area would wrap light on the car, and obscure the other visual elements in the reflections.
China ***** might look nice architecturally and will work better at a higher light level too; the windows might bring a lot to the party during daylight hours as well..
Still following. Amazing build and space!
Cheers
RH, Thanks a bunch for stimulating more thought on lighting while I have time to make a few changes... as I mentioned before, feel free to throw in more suggestions or thoughts.
Back to the construction progress. Not that much to report but visually nice to see... The porch is partially poured and allows for some dirt reduction on the interior. Working in close contact with the excavation company to keep making whatever progress we can. It really pays to have good relationships with people in the business to pull off opportunistic activities like trucking in 600 yards of perfect compacting sand precisely when you need it and everyone is busy with last minute push before winter...
Also got after it on the interior framing and getting ready for the mezzanine joists, they are monsters on 12" centers so I can stack cars up there, or, engine blocks! Building codes are more than adequate in these parts!
Good thing Thanksgiving is coming up - - - I've got a lot to be thankful for!
Respect and thanks to everyone taking this journey with me.
Have not had much time for posting or even taking pictures. The mezzanine/office/staircase and other framing are completed. Here is a shot of the 400 amp power box because it opens the door for wiring the balance of the building (which starts next week). I'll try to post more next week...
Office, bar, kitchen, bathrooms and mezzanine are framed. Staircase in in and lots of big wire has been pulled into the sub boxes...
All outside aprons are poured, garage door tracks and doors should be able to go in starting on the 6th of December.
Lots of snow the last few days... Happy that I'm writing the checks instead of pounding the nails!
Electrical, Pluming, HVAC, Security & other subs are in here 12 hours per day for a sprint to install the miles of wiring and other infrastructure...
Garage doors are next week now with siding just waiting for some wind/rain/snow free days...
