I think Joe would like to say that he did not wired the led that shows when the chip detect knock. My understanding is that the chip is supposed to detect if the knock sensor are not operatives...
looking forward going back to the us to bring one back!
You are all killing me... looks to work so great and with ethanol I’m sure it will work more than great!!!
but I must be reasonable : last year shock absorbers change, gearbox and TT rebuild, now brake pads, sway bar rod and lower brace upgrade... my bill machine is exhausted... lol!!!
it is my next planned expense on my 928 S4! But it is too hard to have to wait...

[QUOTE=Michael Benno;17070909]Hello everyone. I thought I would post an update on mounting the diagnostic light into the pod for 87/88 cars as well as some updated videos of some of the features and adaptation test runs. In post #133 I walked you through how I made the diagnostic light using a standard pod bulb. I was able to plug the bulb into the "CAT" socket on my gauge pod. This is an unused socket (except for JP cars). I did have to mask off the traces on the foil to get the bulb to work. Apparently the traces are powered even though the CAT monitoring equipment are not present.
Here is a pic of the pod with the CAT light illuminated. I used an amber bulb to differentiate it from the warning indicators. Im pretty happy with the color and location. The amber is noticeable but not distracting.
Michael,
Your solution is great!
How did you bring the signal? You bring 2 wires on the bulb or you used the wiring of the car? Did you remember the number of that light in the drawings?K22?

I finally got around to swapping out the eprom with the EZK-s . I had some issues with my shark tuned daughter board (unfortunately I tried to remove just the emprom and managed to break all the pins). Fortunately, after contacting Colin I learned that the entire daughter board has to be removed and it was a snap. I popped in the new EZK-s and went off to dial in the calibration.
I did about 50 km going on and off highway entery/exit ramp hitting red line many times and then slowing to 2,000 rpm. I don't have the knock sensor wired in so I can't speak to how often it was knocking but after about 30 minutes there is a very noticeable improvement in the motor's power. There is a much more immediate throttle response and I was breaking traction when shifting from 3rd to 4th! I also now have a nice sounding exhaust note snarl despite having replaced my rusted out RMB with the stock unit. The car is now more twitchy, for lack of a better word.
All I can say at this point is WOW! What an improvement! Many thanks Ken!
All the best,
Joe
After reading Post 183, I guess I don't need to add a separate knock indicator led as my 93 GTS has a bulb in the check engine light (CEL) and its blinking will indicate a knock! I noticed it was blinking during my tuning run but didn't make the connection until I re-read Schocki's post #183 about his CEL blinking.
Regarding the Knock Light Indicator, I helped @PorKen with an installation guide and did a more through walkthrough of how to create your own for pre-digital dash cars. Here is the link:

Shhh... although I added the current overall learned advance level (goes up over time) to the transient retard settings, off-idle, throttle-back-on, etc., keeping them the same (at the higher GTS level for all) I did not apply it to the shift retard. This means there's still the party trick of a sharper shift with the chip.

And this didn't freak you out? The force is strong with this one.

Will my 1990 S4 have a CEL and bulb?
I really don't fancy messing with the dash when my PorKen EZK arrives....

Well no, I wasn't freaked out. It was the rapture of the moment - all this newfound power! Well done sir!
All the best,
Joe
