Upper Control Arm Sockets For Sale
I've got zero "skin" in this....just found something that is an essential 928 tool and wanted people to be able to get it.
The title tells it all. I found this super obscure 22mm special socket in the German Tool Truck. It worked so great, that I had him order a bunch of them from Germany....and there's a few left. $47.50 (plus whatever the post office charges for a tiny box/envelope to ship)....does not include the special EZRED/MOUNTAIN 19mm wrench) that you already purchased (or you need to purchase) to remove the upper bell housing bolts.
This tool (plus the wrench) turns one of the very worst jobs on a 928 into something simple. The 22mm socket with the wrench is thin enough to fit over the nuts. The tool is hollow, so the stud can pass through. I'm not sure what they built this tool for....but it should be in the "Special Tool Catalog" from Porsche!
If you need to do this job...or plan on ever doing this job....you need one.

I picked these for a home project and they work great. I'll try the 7/8" pass-through the next time this job comes around. Just so happens to be the largest size from that set!
They might offer a 22mm. Not sure.
Please call Mary (714 879 9072), if you aren't picking one of these things up at Sharktoberfest, and she will get one shipped off to you.
So, count the people that want one...if you get to 11, go ahead and put your name down....or better yet, call Mary and have her put you on her list. I'll have him order some more, from Germany, and you'll get one, in the future (These took about 6 weeks to get here.)
If, by some chance, you don't have the "Magical 17/19 "EZRED" wrench for the upper bell housing bolts (apparently now "Mountain" and offered under a vast number of different American sounding/but Chinese names), here's a link a single wrench, which looks the same. Just make sure it's reversible, as that is very handy.

And a link for the single "genuine Mountain" tool from Amazon:
If you want a whole set of these handy tools (I cut the 10mm one in a third and use it for the front oil pan bolts) here's an Amazon link for the complete set of "genuine Mountain" wrenches:

with this socket and the correct wrench what else has to be done to get the uppers out with the engine in.....drivers side looks like a beyatch.
(I’m in the midst of doing the lowers..it’s all apart )
When I pulled my upper arms out I moved the alternator, the power steering pump and the a/c compressor out of the way. That way, with the car on my home brew liftbars and axle stands I managed to get a regular socket on three of the nuts and with some contorted body angles managed to get said nuts after a cacophony of cursing and swearing. Regarding the "difficult one"- that was the rear most one on the driver's side- for once on this darned thing luck fell on my side and I was able to get this nut relatively easy- probably because it was not tightened like the rest [I wonder why?]. The other three felt like the break torque was at least double that specified for tightening - a bit of a bugger when flat on ones back and that before age is considered!
I managed to torque the three bolts correctly but had to use my tired sinews to guesstimate torque on that 4th [awkward] nut [i.e. tightened it as hard as I could with the kit at my disposal].
That most of our professional friends are lining up to purchase this socket tells its own story!
